A deep stack is when we are playing 200bb+ effective. Deep stacked poker is one of the most complex situations in poker. The main reason which makes deep stacked play so difficult to master, is that you are forced to play all 3 streets. All-ins when playing deep-stacked should be rare and the depth of stacks means that mistakes are magnified. Below are the most important to remember when playing deep stacked:
- Huge river decisions for 200bb+.
- Having to play all 3 streets.
- Experienced players love to play deep and maximise their edge.
- Position is more important playing deep. remember if you are out of position and guessing when playing deep stacked, you will be prone to making huge mistakes, which results you in losing huge pots.
- Hand values change!
Deep stacked hand values:
We don't want to be playing hands that could be dominated for top pair value! For example we do not want to be playing the following hands for their top pair making abilities and wanting to play big pots:
Aj Kq Jk AQ
The reason why top pairs made with these hands go down in value when playing deep, is because when we win, we usually win a small pot and when we lose, we lose a much bigger one.
Which hands go up in value?
Any hand with good implied odds. Hands that can overflush, over set and make straights are more valuable then playing shallower:
99 A5 78
It must be noted that there is more value in a suited connector making a straight then a flush, due to the chances of being over flushed.
