In this lesson we get to grips with identifying why people are betting. In No Limit Texas Hold'em we can make money in 2 ways:
1) Having the best hand.
2) Getting better hands to fold.
When we have the best hand we want to get as much money in the pot as possible; this is known as value betting. If we know we have the worst hand we can either: give up and lose the pot or we can bet and try to get our opponent to fold a better hand. This is known as a bluff.
As No Limit Hold'em is a game of imperfect information we do not always 'know' if we have the best or worst hand. In these situations it might be a good idea to bet the absolute strength of our hand. Remember that top pair hands like: kq on a board of q73 are still very good hands that we should value bet, even though there is only one pair!
