Every player's range of hands will change depending on what position they are in. Generally, ranges will widen in later positions, as there are less players to act behind. This allows for more pots to be played in position and easier opportunities to make blind stealing opens.
Typical opening stats (VPIP) per position should look something like this: SB 18-25% BB 18-27% UTG 10-15% MP - 12-18% CO - 24-32% BTN - 35-50%.
As you can see the UTG open is almost 1/4 of the button open. This is a good place to start and is extremely profitable. Playing big hands out of position and playing big-marginal hands in position will make consistent profit. Basically, by being aware that weak hands should not be played in early position and then gradually opening wider the later position you are in, will make you money. So do not go opening 73UTG as we just wont make any money from it! However, if you are on the button and you have two passive blind players then feel free to min raise it and steal the blinds!
Always make sure you are checking both yours and your opponents open % per position. If you see there is a player who opens super wide UTG and frequently folds to 3-bets, you can then punish their play. Also, if you see there is a player who almost never opens UTG you can be pretty sure that when they do open they will have the nuts, so you can then play your hand with more caution.
This keeps us ahead of the game and allows us to think on a higher level than the other players.
