@MilfGrinder is 100% spot on @Jon-PokerVIP

Lot's of chatting along the way.....even time for that selfie stop. It's a great way to run. Having company and conversation really makes those long miles tick by easier.

So got a bit of updating to do. Been so flat out with life at the moment that barely checking in on the forums.

Poker

So for the first time in a while I have a poker update. Although it's nothing significant.

I have transferred what balance I had to a newly opened account on Tony Bet. Something like about 110EU. Will be interesting to see how I go with no HUDs or HHs but it might possibly be the best thing I do. Finding the traffic isn't what I'd hoped for at this stage but the software seems really nice and smooth. Haven't played a great deal yet with no major winning or losing session so not much to report but hopefully I can start getting a few hands in and hopefully with some positive results.

Running

So after the coastal trail run a few weeks ago I spent the next week searching out hills on every run. Did hill repeats for my Tuesday night run and a hard pre-work run in the town I work (much hillier) on Thursday. I followed this up with another run in the town where I did that coastal trail run on the next Sunday (July 10th). However this time instead of the coastal run I headed inland and got some decent hills. I have a few pics here and from some of the high points you can see 360 degrees to some pretty spectacular scenery in all directions. Unfortunately it was quite an overcast day and with the zoom on my phone camera a little blurry the pics really don't do justice to how great the views are.

After the week of hills though I had an easier week during last week where I basically stayed local and cruised the flatter roads at a comfortable pace in preparation for a what I hoped would be a big weekend.

BIG WEEKEND and NEW PBs

PB 1 -> So the plan this weekend was to have a crack at setting a new 5km PB. With all the recent miles and a hard week of hills under my belt, followed by a freshening up week, I felt the time was right to have a go. The previous best was 20:13 and I'm happy to report I didn't just beat it but smashed it, going under 20 minutes for the first time with a time of 19:39

PB 2 -> Following this run on Saturday, I got out on the roads yesterday (Sunday 17th) and set a new PB for longest run, covering a distance of 28.4km (previous best 23km).

So overall a really satisfying weekend and a little reward for effort has me feeling quite positive about the running. I also weighed in at 89.5kg yesterday which is the first time since I don't know when that I've been under 90kg.

In terms of the 2016 overall goal of running 1,500kms I'm now well on the way, having covered 821kms for the year (139kms so far in July).

This now puts me ahead of the year to date pro rate target of 815kms and I hope and expect to push further ahead of target every week now.

Forgot to mention that I also inherited this exercise bike off Dad who likes to buy things that he's never likely to use more than once or twice. Would prefer he wasn't spending the inheritance on shit he didn't need Laugh but at least I end up with the purchase anyway. Lol.

Got it set up in the second living area right in front of the TV so a good way to get some easy, non impact, recovery work in to the legs on the nights I'm not running, without leaving the house. Especially now we are in the middle of winter.

2nd living area is a must with the kids getting older mate Smile

No shame at all. Just different. House, 9-5 job, kids, wife..... You've got freedom to how you make your money and spend your time, travel opportunities etc.

I often sit back and envy you guys who can make a living out of the game and have the freedom to travel and go overseas and the like.

Isn't it funny how the grass is always geener etc. If only we could pick and choose bits from each others lives......but guess that's what makes it fun Smile

Update time, been a while............

Poker

And the main reason I haven't checked in is I simply haven't been playing poker. As I said, I set up a Tony Bet account but there simply aren't any tables running. Maybe 1 table at 5NL, one at 10NL etc up to 50NL..... with the same players on each table and all sweating and hoping 1 rec/fish might turn up.

Wasn't getting any hands in and realised I wasn't missing it so cash out only a few days after making the deposit. Until it just occurred to me to check in here I hadn't even given a second thought to the game again.

Not sure where that leaves this thread. Not sure if anyone cares to keep reading solely about the running and/or life in general but I'll see the thread through and keep some semi-regular updates with the running coming.

Running

Definitely continuing to love this part of my life.

July just finished and for the second consecutive month I clocked up my largest running month ever.

Total July kms = 256.90km
Total YTD kms at July 31 = 938km (surging ahead of the YTD pro-rata target of 873kms).

Last year it took me until end of August to reach 1,000km which I should beat this year even after barely running in the first 3 months. I've haven't felt as fit in years and am weighing in now just under 89kg.

On top of that I finished July yesterday with a new PB for longest run, this time getting out to 32.2km. Not only was it my longest but I did it trail running through the hills of a national park known as Wilson's Promontory. Total elevation for the run close to 1,000m and have to say I finished feeling strong and pulled up great today. This has really given me a lot of confidence for the flat road running of the Melbourne Marathon in October. And I feel ready to crush the 20km trail event I have later in August.

I've included some pics from yesterday's run below.

Unfortunately a few days after my last run I have aggravated some old scar tissue around where I broke my legs years ago, leading to some Achilles tendinopathy (tendonitis). Less than 2 weeks to the trail run I've been waiting for since about January which is a real bummer because this injury aside, my legs and running have never felt better.

Managed one 10km run Sunday which is the only run for the past week and a bit and while got through ok, the first 1-2kms hurt like a bit until it had warmed up.

I'm not on to an exercise program to help alleviate the pain in the tendon before I move on the others to help strengthen the calf/tendon. As well as icing as often as I can and the work day allows. Still plan on the trail run on Sunday week and hoping to get to a point of relief where I can manage it without too much discomfort. I'll bloody crawl it if I have to.

Beyond that though I have the full marathon less than 2 months after and really need to ensure I get this in hand before I'm prepared to take that on.

So g'day everyone. Been a while. It's 5.30am and I'm about to head out for a pre-work jog. I'll look to get a more substantial update in later on but just wanted to say hi and that I've missed you guys.

The short version update is that I am now closing in on 1,500kms with still quite a bit of the year to go. I also completed my 20km mountain/trail event back in August and on Sunday managed my first ever Marathon.

Good to see an update! Been missing following these.

With the mountain trail stuff is this something you have always done or are you kinda moving into new grounds with this?
Posted 7 years ago
I've only done the one mountain/trail event @Jon-PokerVIP but I absolutely loved it. Really want to do more. I could see myself making this the area I head more in to going forward, rather than pure road running.

The road marathon was a huge challenge, very mentally tough towards the end and rewarding to finish. However even before I ran it I found myself looking for trails to run or different streets in different towns to break up the monotony. The trails are so captivating in their beauty that you can get engrossed and it becomes so much more than just running.

I'm now within striking distance of completing the goal of 1,500kms for the year. I should do it quite comfortable this week. A reasonably large improvement on the 1,200 I ended with last year and considering I barely ran through January to March, I will have basically covered the entire distance from April to October. I'm an outside chance of actually getting to 2,000kms by the end of the year if I don't fall away.

POKER...I mean this is a poker forum right? Haha. Well, I've barely played - at all. All my accounts were withdrawn months ago. However, I've recently re-loaded about $75US on Stars. Just a little something to have a dabble with when I get the itch, which I feel is starting to return. I've possibly played about 2,000 hands since then. I'm probably down a touch but haven't really had any significant up or down in that small sample. Gravitated instantly back to zoom but it's all become a bit too robotic and I'm not sure I have the game for it.

For now I think I'll strip it right back and just one or two tables 6 Max reg and really try to watch and learn again. Sit and study the same opponents for a while.

It's been well over a year really since I was grinding hard with a modicum of success so I'd be happy to hear thoughts on how to approach getting back in the game.... game type (reg, speed, full, 3max) as well as how the games are now being played and how to adapt my previous ultra nitty game and find dome improvement that will see me able to play successfully in the games now.

And yeah Asian food is awesome stuff. Congrats on the 17 years too buddy. Poker Website When I look at how many blokes I know who are divorced and single these days I realise how nice it is to still be going strong after this many years and I'm sure many more to come.

Hey guys, long time no post.

Hope everyone is doing well and playing well.

Been many months (18-24) since I've played but wouldn't mind dipping the toes back in the water.

BUT Houston we have a problem. Legislative changes in Australia......

So if anyone knows what site is still taking deposits/withdrawals for Aussie players please let me know.

Cheers in advance.

So all signed up and deposited at Juicy. Thanks heaps to @AshVIP and @Jon-PokerVIP for help with the site recommendation and depositing issues.

Now to hit the tables. Traffic may not be too heavy (which is always an issue anyway with Aus time zone) but that might be ok anyway as I dip the toes back in the water. Have deposited $75USD and will start small at the 4NL stuff.

As for the running........... not sure you guys want to know about that stuff anymore. It's gone to a whole new level since I last updated this thread. More miles, more PBs, more great scenic runs.

Talk soon Smile
