Flop (alt)

A flop is the first three cards that are dealt into the center of the table that all players can use to make their best poker hands. Flops are used in both Hold'Em and in Omaha. Flop cards are all dealt out at the same time. They are laid side by side and because players already have their hole cards in hand, a five-card hand can now happen.

The term flop can also be used as a verb. For instance, if you have an Ace in your hole cards and an Ace comes up in the three-card flop, you have "flopped" a pair of Aces.

It is important for new players to remember that once the flop is laid down, 5/7ths of the game is over! How a player plays the flop is crucial to long-term success.
