Is it okay to fold small off-suit aces from the button?

I am talking about A2o-A7o. I really hate those hands. When you flop an ace and c-bet, your opponent folds everything but good draws or better aces. So what are we trying to achieve with these hands? Two pairs or better? Is it okay to fold these crappy hands preflop or are we losing too much value? Is there some alternative (suited) hands we can play instead of aces with no kicker?

I don't mind playing them from the button, the problem is from the blinds for me... I usually fold offsuit A-rag and sometimes 3bet bluff A-rag suited from SB.. In the BB, I call all my Ax, which can get me into sticky situations

On the button, Ax has good equity vs. the blind calling range. When I hit my ace, I keep the pot small by checking back and pot controlling 1 or 2 streets IP.... Or even checking the flop if it's dry and bluff catching turn and river leads if villain is aggressive. if I definitely don't want to value own myself by bloating the pot. A lot of the time, you will be way ahead or way behind. Keeping the pot small is the way to go.

With A2-5 IP, I play my wheel draws aggressive as you can get paid off a decent amount of the time when you hit

I would say we pretty much always have to open any Ax on the button as although they can be tough to play postflop the main reason we open the button is because the blinds are posted....blind! Therefore we are relying on the fact that we get a lot of folds and then even postflop a CBet or something will then work a really high amount of the time also.

Postflop is where you will be struggling so the opening pre flop is standard but yeh when you flop an ace or 2nd pair it can be tough to play when facing aggression. So think about

- Delayed cbets
- Just calling down
- Inducing bluffs
- Controlling the pot size

Hopefully this all just makes it super easy to play.

I disagree that villains will fold everything but better aces and good draws. If you're opening 45% or whatever, and the flop is ace high villain won't give you credit for top pair very often on the flop and turn. There's plenty of value from second and third pair type hands, and of course a lot of players won't defend their blinds wide enough so you're getting a profitable shot at taking them down without even seeing a flop.

Position is another bonus. You can check behind on an ace high flop to pot control if you have reads that villain might get tricky and put pressure on you.

Thank you for solid advice! I think they are useful for balancing the checking range when an ace hits so you do not end up checking something like KK and QQ only.
