Do you ever have dreams or nightmares about the final table?

How do you cope with the variance of high stakes tournament play? Do you ever let it get to you?
Posted 8 years ago
Amazing to have you here Martin, thank you Smile

1) How do you manage your money? (Do you invest? Involved in any businesses? Have a poker expense plan? etc.)
2) Do the mental performance enhancing drugs e.g. CILTEP really work?

Do you feel you caused a poker boom in Sweden? Are you the Swedish Chris Moneymaker?

What effect do you feel your win had on the Swedish live and online poker markets?

RikardPT: How come you ended up choosing to go with the REG charity and will you play with the REG patch again in this year's WSOP?

I always knew I wanted to get involved with charity at some point in my life and when I made the final table the timing felt right. One thing I didn't have though was time to research all the different charities so REG became a perfect fit since that's basically what they do, in order to find the one's who has the biggest impact on its cause. Also, personally knowing most of the guys behind the organisation and their reputation and core values helped me feel comfortable with my decision.

Yes I will continue to support and donate 5% of my future winnings to REG.

Jamie: Awesome to have you here Martin.

My question: How are you investing your winnings from the Main Event in 2016?

I've bought a house here in the UK, invested in some funds and business start-ups. And of course, re-investing it in more tournament buy-ins!

I swap small % of action with other players who are at a similar level. I prefer it to selling. You always gonna hit downswings every now and then but it's something you learn to deal with as you gain more experience.

Thanks, happy to be here! Smile

1. I've invested in some of my friends start-ups which I'm really excited about. I'm also currently sketching on some business plans of my own which I hope to materialize later this year.

2. Generally speaking I think the effect supplements has on our bodies is something very individual and especially when it comes to Nootropics. Some studies has shown enhanced results while others claim to not feel a thing. My advice is to try it with an open mind and see if you feel any difference. Personally I believe it helps me keep focus during the long days of play. Poker has become so ultra competitive in recent years so it's really all about finding that extra edge, even if it's minimal it could be the difference maker in the long run. (I was using CILTEP long before I became affiliated with them in any way).

How did you get to playing 10k$ buy-in tourneys? Did you grind online/live? What was your poker background before the ME win?

I didn't sell any it was all through swaps. The biggest was 4% so yeah, quite a few people!

Yes, although I don't sell as much as most regs because I only play when I really feel in top shape and want to test myself vs the best players in the world. Having a big piece of yourself kinda forces you to focus 110% but it also really exhausts you. That's why I only play a few per year.

No definitely not! I don't think any WSOP Champion has had the effect MM had on the global poker market. I haven't done too much media appearances in Sweden since I don't live there at the moment. Unfortunately the interest for poker seems to be real low in Sweden at the moment. I feel like it would be tough for one single person to change that, it would almost definitely have to be backed by the big corporations like PokerStars who has the resources to create advertisement, campaigns and promotions etc.

I started off as a SNG player and transitioned into Step tournaments once I got the itch to play big live tournaments. I remember the first Step 6 I played was for the WSOP ME in 2008. I got 2nd which generated a new Step 6 ticket. I won the second one and went to Vegas by myself and busted the Main on the third hand! Laugh

I kept playing satellites online after that and eventually (with a bunch of luck) had a break through on the live circuit which kinda forced me to improve dramatically.

I just played what felt natural and what I enjoyed the most, which has always been tournaments.
