Peter Eastgate said in an interview that a year after his win, he felt that he was struggling a bit with the attention that the WSOP ME win in 2008 brought about, which eventually led to him more or less leaving poker completely. He also felt it was hard to know who your real friends were and who was now really nice to him only because he was the champ. Have you felt any of those feelings now a bit more than a year after your win or any other 'side effects' from being the champ?

Jon-PokerVIP: How do you feel about the $1million one drops? Rumors are Esfandiari, Trickett and Colman all had under 10% of themselves....would you do this? Do you think ego drove them to play?

I thought the first one was a huge success but the hype around it clearly dropped the second time around where the majority of the field were pros. Yes I would play with 10% of myself but the hassle of selling 900k worth of action is not something I'm looking to go through. I wish there was a trusted exchange site for all that sort of stuff.

Who knows what drove them, my guess would be prestige and money.

The only time I've felt a bit overwhelmed with the attention was the first week after I won but it cooled down quite quickly. Now, I really appreciate the attention I still get even though I'm not the current champ anymore. I guess it's a bit different since poker was really booming back in 08 when he won so he probably had a lot more on his plate than I ever did.

As with making new friends it can be a bit tricky for sure but its never been a problem with the one's I already have. I know who my friends were before I won and they're still the same, just like me.

I have 2 questions for u Martin:

1 - What would be your main tip for players that are starting in micro stakes and wish to become a top pro like u someday?

2 - I know u love MMA, so, Jon Jones or Daniel Cormier?

1. Be patient and focus on building your roll while taking shots in satellites to get into bigger tournaments.

2. Jones by domination. Cormier is tough as hell but I think it's going to be a lot more one-sided this time around so I could see Jones finishing him in the later rounds.

A house. I don't have a car, in fact I don't even have a license. The people I care about treat me the same.

Good question and a tough one to answer. I think a mixture of passion, talent and dedication.

Do you think there will be professional, online poker, cash game players in the year 2025 and will any of them be playing at Pokerstars?

9 years from now? Yeah I'd imagine so. It might look a bit differently from today though, especially how online poker works.

PokerStars better start making better long-term decisions again if they wanna stick around til then!

Hi @Martin Jacobson

Thanks for taking some time out for PokerVIP! Smile

I am liking your answers, seems you are very level headed and your success has not changed your way of thinking much. Would you say all of that money has changed you in any way?

Who is the best poker player you have ever played against?

Have any funny/memorable stories from the tables?

Why you have your search option enabled on Stars? just curious since most players disable it.

Martin,
You mentioned performing meditation as part of your routine. Do you recommend and practitioners or books on meditation?

You've obviously worked very hard to get where you are in your chosen game and congratulations to you for your success, we need winners! Smile

So, it seems common for pros to be brutally honest about their own game, during interviews out in public at least (!), but I'd like to know how hard was to get to that stage for you in particular? Was/is it an ongoing process, or are were you always able to do it?

Obvously we're all different, but down here in the trenches people come up with allsorts of excuses for losing except admit their weaknesses.

Thank you for your time and keep having fun. Smile

Thanks for having me!

I hope not but I think it would be better answered by the people who knew me from before. If anything it has made me further realize that life is not about making the most amount of money. It's about doing what you love and if you give it your all, money shouldn't be a problem. I know it's easy for me to say (now) but money should never reflect your level of happiness. It's just a tool which can be helpful when your trying to reach your goals.

I've played with so many great players over the years so it would be hard to only pick one. I'm yet to play with someone who has 0 flaws and does everything perfectly (probably doesn't exist).

Haha for every great player I've played with there been at least 10 "speculative" players so I've had the pleasure to witness some hilarious stuff. I wish I'd remember it all. Let me get back to you on this.

So my friends can find me. I'm not too worried about other players being able to see how many tables I'm playing.

I use an app called Headspace which I think works really well (at least for me). They have a free 10-day trial if you wanna give it a shot.
