Poker Movie - Which Pro Would You Pick???

Posted 9 years ago

Spoke about this in a different thread but I thought it would make a great one of it's own.

The question was: If a film/bio was made of any poker player who would you want it to be and why?

I chose Doyle Brunson as he has seen it all and think it would show the changing face of poker. From travelling around Texas, being held at gun point, playing dodgy games, watching people come and go, so much money changing hands and then seeing it become this phenomena it is now!

So what about you?

DevilFish or Gus for me. Mostly the Fish though, such an interesting and entertaining story to.

Amarillo Slim

Read his book. It was really entertaining. A lot of stuff beyond poker, hustling-prop bets etc.

I replied in the other thread - I said stuey ungar.
If you haven't read his book, your missing out bigtime.
He did it all, had it all and the story, although sad in the end is the stuff of poker legend.

Good shout on the devil fish - another great read๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Has anyone watched the drawing dead movie? I want to watch it but if it's rubbish I don't want to pay๐Ÿ˜†
Dusty Schmidt story would be good too......
What's the latest on him, I read an article a few years ago about how he'd made a poker comeback but then quit as he reckons a doctor diagnosed him as having Brian functionality problems due to the amount of poker he had played online? (I'm not making that up either!)

Never knew that!
I'll give it a look - me not knowing the movie exists is obviously a bad sign about the quality of it ๐Ÿ˜ซ
The book is brilliant though and a good holiday book (I read it on the long haul flight to Vegas about 6 years ago).
Cheers for the info guys.

Yeh good ones here and Devilfish had one hell of a life and really went from rags to riches (and back and forth a few times). Gotta say how lucky I am that i have half a dozen encounters with him and one of my fondest memories in poker: He rang me on Christmas Eve once to wish me a Merry Christmas and had a little chat about poker....he got my number as he had a Skin on UB and i grinded pretty hard on there back in the day. He had no reason to do it just saw I was from Hull near him and wanted to wish me the best......LEGEND

I know this is bit left field but I'd be interested to see Victoria Cohen Mitchell. I reckon the story would be quite relateable and interesting to see how fame affected her poker.

This would make a better documentary imo as there just isn't enough grit if you know what i mean?

Doyle is a great pick, I also like the idea of Victoria Cohen Mitchell biopic and I'd watch both of those in a heartbeat. I'd never watch a Dan Bilzerian movie, but I'm should it would be great for poker market. My pick would be Sammy Farha. Such a fascinating character that's both flamboyant and shrouded in mystery. His loss in 2003 Main Event was the start of a poker boom which in my book is as dramatic and poetic as poker ever goes. I get excited just thinking about the concept.

I just read this https://www.pokertube.com/poker-news/poker-gossip-opinion/gunmen-rob-foggy-bottom-poker-game, Johnny Hughes must have a story or twelve to tell surely!
