The RED line thingy ?

Posted 7 years ago

don't shoot me down if this is a dumb question I'm new to graphs and stats so I've only played 5k hands and I'm new to online poker(live mtt player) but I'm looking at my graph and noticing my red line non showdown winnings is terrible and I feel if I can do something about this I can be winning a lot more than what I currently am does anyone have any advice on this ? ...thanks in advance

Whats stakes are you playing? I am guessing micros, like maybe 5nl or 10nl or something like that. I play 10nl and used to actually worry a ton about the red line, but then red and heard someone say at the end of the day the green line is the only line that matters and if you are winning money then great!!

That being said, poker is a game of edges, so if you can find some spots where you can make a bit more here or a bit more there, then maybe you can improve your winrate. Who knows maybe you can increase it by 1bb/100 or even 2bb/100 which can be significant in the long term.

The challenge you will run into at the micros is that you don't have a huge pool of relatively competent opponents. So running complex bluffs against them, expecting them to know that xx is in your range more than theirs usually ends in disaster. You will find that playing very basic abc poker is typically the way to go. When you have a value hand bet the hell out of it and get as much money as you can, which you are probably doing as your blue line is way up there.

Now that doesn't mean you don't bluff. I know when I was at 2nl and 5nl i used to cbet bluff and semi bluff the flop quite a bit, depending on board textures. Sometimes as high as an 80% FCB. The reason for that, is although there are a fair amount of calling stations that will call with two napkins, hence the reason we can't bluff very often, there are also a fair amount of fit or fold types of villains. Literally if they do not catch some piece of the flop, they are just folding. So you can make a fair amount of money cbetting the right types of boards.

Lastly, I would recommend checking out some leak finder videos by @w34z3l Not the one where he comments on live play, but the ones where he goes through someones database and tells them where they are missing out on profit or have leaks in their games. At the micros there are a few auto profit areas, where when villains do certain things that you can literally bet with ATCs because they fold so much. I know one is if villain is IP and and is the original raiser, like villain is on the BU and you are in the BB, that if you check to them and they check the back the flop, so a missed cbet, that you can pretty much fire a bet with ATCs on the turn, as the villains at the micros tend to over fold there and don't protect their check back range very well. There are a few spots like that that W34z3l lays out.

I would just be careful about how much stuff you do at the micros and pick your spots wisely, although you can raise the red line you may do it at the cost of the blue. Obviously, if you are bluffing more you have the chance to get your bluffs called and lose at showdown, so you could end up trying to increase your red line at the cost of the blue line so you have to make sure you pick the right spots.
