Using a HUD at the micros

Posted 7 years ago

Hi folks,

I have a HUD set up but lately I have been playing with it off, and trying to play ABC poker at 2NL to encourage me more to get better at feel and analysing things so that I can then use that combed with the stats much more effectively.

Is there any value to using a HUD at these stakes, and what sort of stats are best to use ( i mean beyond standard VPIP and PFR).

I have this Set up here:

VPIP / PFR / Limp-Fold / Agg factor
3B / F3B / F4B
SB fold to steal / BB fold to steal / Tot Steal %
Flop CB / Fold to Flop CB / Turn Cbet / fold to turn Cbet

At the micros I think the less info you have the better, as you can focus more on reading hand and less on stats. I would go for the following:

Hands/VPIP/PRF/3bet/Aggression.

The stats above give you a quick snapshot on the player type, for example, if you see a 23/20/6 you know they are regish, probably study and have a decent grasp on the game.

If you see a 19/4/2 3bet you, and they 3bet or 4bet you, you know they have only KK-AA.

When I play any stakes I just have the stats above so I can quickly profile a player as a reg, fish or rec and play accordingly.

Hey, feel free to use our 6-max HUD (this is what all our students on the Micros are using): Link to HUD + Explanation Video Explanation Video.

The HUD is made specifically for our students by Alan Jackson, one of the best (if not the best) DB expert in poker, author of PokerMetrics, and author of many videos for Holdem Manager. He's also coaching on our 6-max team.

Here's what I've been using for a few years.

One of the most useful stats I find that most players don't use is the Raise First In %. This is great for spotting positionally unaware opponents, and those opening every BTN and SB etc.

The HUD recommended by @BestPokerCoaching looks great especially in the context of micro stakes. I'm somewhat familiar with Alan Jackson's work back in the BlueFirePoker days and he's certainly the expert when it comes to stats/database analysis.
