A (Mind) Cookie A Day a.k.a. Favorite Quotes Thread

Posted 7 years agoEdited 7 years ago

Hello, PokerVIP friends. In this thread, you can post one of your favorite quotes every day to inspire other people. You can also discuss those quotes, and talk about what they mean to you. Remember to use bold text when posting the quote so the thread stays nice and clean. Let me start with this beauty from my second favorite book series:

"Control the things you can control, maggot. Let everything else take a flying fuck at you, and if you must go down, go down with your guns blazing."

This one is pretty self-explanatory and i used it as a nice morale boost on those days when I'm particularly lethargic or moody.

lol Smile Great idea

I guess my favourite life quote would be

"Don't worry about the things in your past, There's a reason they don't make it to your future"

In terms of my poker goals this is my screen saver

"Good, better, best. Never let it rest. 'Til your good is better and your better is best"

Great stuff so far friends.

Another one of my favorites:

"It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so." - Mark Twain

Which rings so true every time I hear someone that's a bit too much into his ideology of choice (or catch myself being too attached to some of my beliefs).

"The worst they can say is no"

Someone smart probably said it first but my Dad used to say this all the time to me as a kid and it did me a lot of good over the years

"Love isn't something you feel, it's something you do. If the person you're with doesn't want it, do yourself a favor and save it for someone who does."

A bit of dialogue from a great TV show:
"-Nuclear war. We could be gone tomorrow.
-Well, isn't that always the case?"

Might sound a bit grim but on the flipside, it's about living every day to the fullest cause there's a chance we might not get another one.

From a great movie with a great soundtrack.

"It can't rain all the time."

Another one from my boy Mark Twain:

"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect."

So true, especially in poker.

A couple from Gerard Way:

Life is very, very short, and you can choose to live it how you want. You can choose to dumb yourself down and not express yourself just so you can fit in, just so people won't dislike you.

Be yourself, don't take anything from anyone, and never let them take you alive.

“Always take into consideration the fact that you might be dead wrong,” - Terry Pratchett

I'm always trying to keep this in the back of my mind when I'm discussing or learning things.

"Shit happens" is probably my favourite quote when it comes to poker.

I said this last night after my pocket fives beat pocket jacks with a 5 on the river. Guy threw his headphones on the table, stood up and stormed away from the table Rolling on the floor laughingRolling on the floor laughing

Actually, people need to stop playing pocket Jacks. They are a train wreck waiting to happen. Wink

This and the Mark Twain one. To disregard the possibility you could be wrong, and the impact your actions can have if you are, can be very dangerous.

Going back to the source of the first quote I posted in this topic:

"Fault always lies in the same place, my fine babies: with him weak enough to lay blame."

My world-view constantly changes and I might be wrong on this, but seeing as how good ideas (veganism, equality, liberalism, conservatism you name it!) evolve into something ugly once you start pointing fingers I think we should be on the lookout for a new kind of ideology without some kind of conflict at the base of it (very tricky considering the fact that conflict seems to be a building block of most of the popular ones).
