Canelo vs GGG

Posted 8 years ago

17th September I'm hearing. This would be epic. Who cares who wins? The fight is going to be incredible and no dodging or bullshit like some of the other big matchups. Boxing the real winner. Finally. Its been on a big losing run.

Golovkin has been crazy dominant in every fight I've seen but fought bums. Canelo is actually bigger than GGG when he rehydrates as well so weight is no issue. Canelo has fought the best, but neither ever been tested with the sort of power they each have.

I reckon Canelo should be the favourite but my money, depending on the odds will be on GGG I reckon. Underdog value with the Mexicans backing their guy in too heavily outside of Eastern Europe.

Boxing on Poker VIP outstanding! I have to agree I think GGG has been protected by HBO otherwise they would have made the fight between GGG and Andre Ward which personally I thing Ward beats him easily. Not sure if I think Canelo is the bigger guy but he is definitely the lesser talented of the two(GGG Canelo).

Should be a fun fight because they can both be hit so someone is getting knocked out. I've never really been a fan of Canelo in terms of what he can do in the ring. He seems like a pretty straight forward up and down fighter and so is GGG but he knocks people out.

Would be interesting to see what happens if he(GGG) hits someone and they don't go down. Over the many years that I have watched the beautiful sport of boxing, one thing is almost always constant. When a knock out artist is use to guys crumbling when they hit them and they come face to face with someone who has just as much talent but they also have a chin of granite guess who crumbles. Mike Tyson, when he couldn't be the bully he was pretty ineffective, George Foreman vs Ali,Sugar Ray Leonard vs Tommy 'the hit man' Hearns their first fight. All of these guys that were use to rendering people unconscious met someone who refused to go down, so they went down instead.

Not saying Canelo is that guy but that guy is most defiantly out there. Should be a great fight, Boxing desperately needs this.

I've not heard of HBO protecting Golovkin but its boxing so I guess anything is possible. I felt like wether you think he is talented or not no-one wants to risk a loss against a guy who appears to have major knockout power and so people wouldn't give him the fight.

You're totally right about the surprise that happens when a boxer can't play their normal game, or if they used to guys crumbling and they take a big shot, smile and trade back. A few years back I met George Foreman at an event, he was the evening speaker. Absolutely lovely guy in person, bit wierd maybe, but genuine and up for chatting to random people. I'd never ask him about his losses but in his main speech he talked about the Ali rope-a-dope. He said it was a misread of the fight to say he was punched out or tired or whatever. He reckons what knocked him out was Ali's chat on the ropes and in the clinches. Ali was all "come on George, hit me, that all you got George?"

Foreman said he was thinking, yeah that is all I've got. No-one ever stayed up when he connected and Ali was apparently just walking through them and asking for more. We know now what Ali was doing to manage the force hitting him but Foreman couldn't figure it out and managing a fight to win on points was not something he prepared for so at that point he was just waiting to lose.
