Marathon Prop Bet 2017

Posted 7 years ago

Hey guys, so in my stupid, overzealous and cocky mind I have somehow ended up making a prop bet to complete Dublin Marathon 2017 in 4 hours. I think the date is the 30th Oct 2017 or so.

Terms of the bet:
2.5/1, 4 hours time limit. I cannot seek professional advice or have a regular running partner.
One off partners are fine, and no-one is allowed to run with me during the actual race.
If I get injured I need a doctors confirmation to say I am unable to participate in the race.
If an act of God occurs, such as me dying/not getting a place in the marathon the bet is void.

Background on me:
I'm 22, used to be fairly fit and played GAA alot from I was 14-18 and then went to University and discovered alcohol & pizza deliveries. Put on a decent amount of weight, have hardly trained since. Been trying to find a way to get back to good fitness levels but failed so far. Started new job in Dublin 2 months ago and wanting to get fit again!

Last time I made a fitness goal I set was at the beginning of the year:
- Run 5km in 23 mins (the last run/walk I did this in 43 mins)

Which pretty much failed miserably with the bankroll challenge I was doing!!

So, to try and motivate me to do this stupid thing I'm open to taking on more bets with the same T&C.
Min bet €50, I'll probably only take on another €200-300 max. Will possibly ask some PokerVIP mod to escrow the bets at a certain date.

If anyone fancys a punt this is definitely a +EV scenario..

lol, such a stupid bet, especially at age of 22 when human body us not ready for competing at marathons. What's the thing of 'finishing marathon' these days? And 4h is such a bad time for marathon - if I had official result like 3:55, I'd never even tell anyone that I did it as I'd get berated sooo hard Sad Making a bet to do 5k under like 18 min or w/e would be so much better and way more fun to succeed - and you wouldn't get humiliated when you tell people about your result Cheeky

Bet is made though, and if you can't make marathon under 4h in 1 years period - you're just lazy af Cheeky

I'm 43 and just completed my first marathon last week. 4 hours shouldn't be an issue as milf said if you put in some work.

I did it in 3 hours 40 and I'm twice your age and even that was with the final 10-12kms at a crawl after my groins seized up.

Good luck.

As a general rule, I'm not interested in betting against someone else's fitness goals unless I know for a fact it will provide them with a motivation boost. I can however wish you good luck and given that you have some time to prepare I assume you're not going to need it.
