I think it's a discipline fold at these stakes your likely beat by a reg. He has 77, maybe JJ and a lot of flush draws in his range flatting in the CO.

Today was a bad poker day for me. Couldn't keep my mindset non-spewy and felt like I was constantly in fish mentality waiting for that big double up. Finally go in my groove when I hit the 1100-hand mark and did some pure grinding where I rarely went to showdown. Graph below. One thing I am happy about is putting in more volume this month than I have any other month in my life. Learning a lot as I go and my results aren't terrible considering I am up this month over 30 buy-ins (NL5). Will be posting my 3 week March progress at the end of the week.

Nice work on the volume bud! As for the mentality it is a tough one to figure out. I was speaking with a staked player about this the other day and I said to celebrate the small things. Everytime we get value, make a good fold, get away with a 3b bluff just have a little smile. It will make you feel much better!

Yeah I like that mentality, Jon. I am still working on being more disciplined at the tables. If I can reduce the spew-mentality I know I will see better results. I know what I need to do but it is easier said than done. This session I am going to work on letting it go when I know I am beat.

Was in a good mindset this morning at 5NL. Got caught bluffing in a big pot (I realize I should never bluff at these stakes) and tilted pretty bad. Took a break and gathered myself and came back to shot NL25 with a friend of mine coaching me. Graph Below.

The only reason I decided to shot NL25 was because I had a very good player coaching me, this is not something I would do on my own at the moment. Lunch break and then back to NL5 with what I learned.

I wouldn't say you should never bluff at these stakes but be very cautious 3 barreling with no equity. Semi bluffs are great such as check raising the turn with a flush draw or open ended. Player type is huge... A lot of regs know how to find the fold button but obviously you know the fish do not.

Nice 25NL shot Smile

Made a coaching deal with a friend and fellow grinder. Played our first session (about 800 hands) and ended up +15USD. Played here and there throughout the day and finished with just over 1400 hands played. Today's graph below.

May I ask what the deal is?

Jon-PokerVIP: May I ask what the deal is?

It is a pretty casual arrangement as far as our schedule and the amount of time involved. Basically 7 days with as many session as our schedules allow. For each session, we split winnings 50/50, and if I lose money on the day I owe nothing. I am hoping to get some substantial poker strategy routines and after 7 days be able to apply what I learned without a coach.

Sounds like a pretty insane deal for sure! Think it will last long term?

I think when I finish University and get a real job and have a real income I will likely seek some more permanent part-time coaching. For now this is just a casual investment to improve my play at the micros for the short term. Just trying to build some routine poker practices so I can further enjoy my NL5 play in the near future. I have already learned and applied some knowledge in solo sessions.

Ok so I really would like some input on this hand. My coach says I played it well but I am of course curious to see some input from others. I mean do we every find a fold on the river? We would have to be ultra-NITS right?

Right now I am really in a tough spot with poker. Today just seemed to be cooler after cooler and it kills me. Will be back on later when I cool off, very frustrated this morning.
