Thanks @Jon-PokerVIP I'll definitely get a video done this month for review. I was considering sticking with good BRM and not playing the larger buy in OPL events, but the value is just too good so I'll be in for some of them at least.

This looks like a realistic set of goals given your priorities and given how many people overestimate how much they can achieve in a year I commend you for keeping your head on your shoulders.

Can you write a bit more more about your tilt issues?

I think the main issue is my desperation to win. Whether I play for 30 minutes or 4 hours I always want to come away with a winning session. And I really hate losing. That just doesn't work too well in a game where even with a steady win rate you'll find yourself losing many sessions and a hell of a lot of pots. I'm getting better at handling it, but a long losing streak really makes it easier to tilt faster and harder each time. One thing I've learned the hard way is to never play when I'm in a bad mood. Not only does it affect the standard of my game, but makes any tilt even worse. If I'm in a good mood I'm much more likely to talk while I play, make better decisions, and laugh off the bad beats/coolers or just accept the mistakes made and learn from them. I just wish it was possible to have no clue whether or not I'm up on a session. I know you can avoid checking the cashier, but you can always see your table stacks. When you've played for hours and are at 100bb across all tables you know you're down a few buy ins. I find it hard not to let that affect my play.

First week of 2017 in the books. I haven't really been playing, just 1 MTT entry with no score. It's been a busy and rather tough week. For starters I'm having a dry month. Developed some really bad drinking habits over the last 2 years to the point where I was drinking 7 nights a week and I mean pretty heavy (though this did improve in Oct and Nov). So to have gone a week without any booze has been difficult and not left me in the best of moods to play poker. I've also cut out all junk food and been watching my diet pretty well. It's made me a bit of a hangry monster. But it does mean I've been able to train hard (if you're interested check out my training log here). Plus I mentioned in my yearly review that I'd be looking for a new job this year. Well it looks like that will have to happen much sooner than anticipated. On the first day back in the office a bunch of people were let go. I wasn't among them but this week we should find out about the next round of redundancies. I'm 95% sure my name will be on the list. This could hijack any plans I have but I'm sure it will work out well in the end.

Regardless of what happens at work I plan to play a few sessions this week, perhaps after a warmup I'll get that video done for review.

Week 2 update

Only 1 session played:

Fri 13 Jan 2017 – Sky Poker 10NL 2h 15min 638 hands Winnings: £43.40

Nice to kick things off with a win. I recorded the session and made notes to check a few hands. Took a look at them today and I think I played them ok.

I've bought screencast o matic as I've had issues with BB flashback, I'll be using that from now on so should be able to get some recorded hands to post up for review, and get that session review video done too.

Off the tables only 3 gym sessions this week so well up for beasting it this week. And it's confirmed I am getting made redundant so I'll be changing jobs in the next few weeks hopefully.

I also had relatively slow two weeks as far as my goals are concerned and I can confirm that some beasting is definitely in order. Good luck with the job hunt! I assume it's not going to be a problem given the field you work in. In any case - fingers crossed.

As it happens I played a session yesterday and after breaking even for 2 hours I lost 2 pots of 200bb each to wipe out that winning session. Back to the start...

Basically I missed a few for various reasons then it was only the higher buy ins left so I decided to save my bankroll for cash. I don't think there's anything I'd particularly like to see, I like that it's a little different each season.

For now I really want to focus on cash, and I actually want a little advice if you don't mind. I really enjoy playing heads up cash and I think, against the 10NL player pool on Sky at least, I seem to have a big edge. The problem though is the rake. If you're not crushing your opponent then the rake is crippling. Plus on Sky the heads up tables get no action so you have to open new 6 max tables and play headsup until someone else joins. Are there better sites for playing headsup or should I stick to 6 max?

I'm no expert, but the common consensus among the pros back in the day was that rake in heads up cash games below NL50 is almost unbeatable. If you like playing head's up, sit and go tournaments are a valid option. It's a different beast than cash since you're forced to play at many different stack sizes, but developing that skill can transfer well into something like Spin & Go (which given the trajectory poker seems to be on lately, might be the game of the future). It's just something to think about.

Ok so I didn't exactly beast it this week. Just 2 poker sessions and hardly any gym. But I have been very busy job hunting, phone interviews etc, and took the Mrs out our first date in ages.

Sun 15 Jan 2017 – Sky Poker 10NL 2h 20min 868 hands Winnings: -£46.46

Sat 21 Jan 2017 – Sky Poker 10NL 2h 05min 631 hands Winnings: £3.46

No targets for the next few weeks as things will be a bit chaotic and it will be difficult to find a decent routine.

@Jon-PokerVIP Ha I wish!

Are you really choosing job hunting and date with the Mrs over grinding NL10 on Sky? I don't understand your priorities Laugh

Usually, in spots like that where you block everything you're lucky if one guy has something like 77's that give you one and a half streets of value on average. In other words - good job sir Laugh
