Ok ermmmm...... Pure brutality.... 16 buy in downswing over 20k hands... Literally feels hopeless. This is really putting me to the test. I genuinely think I'm playing good but I keep running into hands / not hitting anything whatsoever... I'm not sure how I should approach my next session with a good mindset.. Any tips? =/

From on 10NL's door... to contemplating dropping to 2NL for a while... Unbelievable haha

Times are tough!

Check out these hands! Particularly AK, think my call was ok, would like to hear your opinion!

Imagined 77/22 would raise flop... Put him on a spade draw / random bluff. 2 came on river... Reduced his sets of 2's. Backdoor hearts unlikely as Th and Kh on board so less flush combos... Spade draw missed... Correct call?

I'd fold 86o hand on turn
AK bet bigger on flop, and I'd fold turn there also. As played folding river.
Other hands are fine in my opinion.

Why would he raise combo draws on turn when he is in position?
I think you are overestimating the amount of bluffs average villian has, especially turn/river raises.

Oh and try not to show results Smile

Looks like -EV. I've ran 20 bi below EV losing more than that and beat the stake I lost at for 4bb/100 over a 70k sample including that stretch.

Post your stats on here if you jave them, because there may be some gaping holes in your game.

Thanks for feedback!

Yeah on review I probably should have folded 86 on turn! I never seem to give respect to donk bets... I usually put them on draws. Maybe this is something I need to look at changing

That's a very good point about raising IP! I was just thinking about combos and the only realistic hands that were beating me were 77 or KT. At these stakes though, I should have known better! Bluffing is a rarity! We live and learn Cheeky

Really? Surprised Impressive!

So I think a night of decent study is due! Gonna try delve into my database for the past 20k and see if there's anything major going wrong.

Gonna also catch up on all the coaching vids over the past week! I see @Jon-PokerVIP has a new player review Laugh Love these!

Something I was thinking about doing on here is a "Study Diary".... Which would be a different kind of journey to most.... Make a list of things to study and then discuss what I've learned? Thoughts? I think this would keep me motivated to dedicate time to study

I'd like to start a routine of 7-10pm for grinding weekdays and 10-11pm for study. Tough with the full time job to find more time!

A study diary sounds a great idea, would be good to follow, gl!

Great idea, won't work, but great idea Cheeky

Honestly I've seen and started sososososososososososoos many if these kinds of study journeys and none have lasted a few weeks.

Studying your database also won't help you much at all. Do you know what you are looking for?

Best thing would be to work through your ranges and what portion should betting flops, what portions checks which portion double barrels etc.

Share your database for sure, others who know what to look for can give you great insights but looking at it yourself is like (and don't feel offended by this because it is the same for all poker players below 100nl IMO) a 22 golf handicapper looking at his swing, or a soccer player playing in the bottom league watching back a video of a game they play in. You will gain very very little, we are so low down on skill level compared to someone of a pro level. It would be silly for a low level sports player to expect their main area of improvement to come from just looking at what they are already doing Smile

Hahaha I like your honesty Cheeky Do you have any study plan you try to follow at the moment?

I'd know the basics of what to look for from watching some analysis vids but overall, you are right... It's a out of my depth. I should be working on ranges! Whats the best way to do this? Generate some random flops and think through it? Hand review?

Posted 8 years ago
Right now I'm focusing a bit more on Forex than I am poker, not really playing atm as my roll is in other things and playing 10nl is just too dull for me.

A friend and I create some really well balanced preflop ranges and are now playing them against snowie and working quite hard on range v range- how our range is constructed and how therefore we should play certain parts of our range. I think with the progress we have made so far that it is comfortably the fastest and probably best way to study. You learn your range and how to play it against a computer which if it sat down at 50nl would kill the games.

Also videos imo are so shit unless you are a) a real beginner or b) learning a new concept/math and can't figure it out on your won. Watching someone play is not going to help you it might even make you worse if you don't think about it and just do it.
Posted 8 years ago
I've heard sooo many great things about Snowie! Unfortunately I don't think it's available on Mac but seriously considering partitioning my harddrive to use software such as this! It will also open my options to other poker rooms and get them yummy rakeback deals

I try to jot down some notes when watching coaching vids and then put them to the test during sessions in what I'd imagine to be good situations, there's been a lot of times that I've watched vids and took nothing away from it however

It is good, but you have to use it properly and I'm not really haha, time will tell if it is worth the money. I personally watch maybe 1 video a month and would say that what I'm doing now with snowie is 5x as valuable Smile

Busy week upcoming so not sure how much volume I can get in! Might hop in the Zoom tables for a bit! I actually find them quite soft Surprised

What's your thoughts on Full Tilt and Pokerstars merging? Will this change the games much in your opinion?
Posted 8 years ago
LOL Royals are tough to make! ,Super loose call there with the 7 #pokerisnotdead
Posted 8 years ago
A quick update! Took a few days off the big grind due to life ongoings! But I've still been putting in some decent work off the tables with study

Played a little bit last night on Pokerstars Zoom and it all went well however Laugh Up 3 buy ins! I seem to be doing well at the Zoom tables

Overall though... Poor month so far, running about 10 buy ins below EV... Shit happens! I learn a lot from downswings so hopefully I'll bounce back next month Smile

Gonna post some ranges here later, would love your opinions!
