These two hands sum my journey up, I suppose the first hand is not bad to lose less than half my stack and the second hand I realise I make the call on the turn needing about 28% and I only got about 25%, but its not a disaster and cant my redraw come in for once. I gonna either take a rest or give up my journey, not sure which yet.

Ah sigh never fun to hear of a player wanting to give up. Whats the fix to all this?
Posted 8 years ago
I dont know the answers or if there is a fix, perhaps I lack the mental fortitude needed because of my health. I try so hard to understand all the different facets of the game, but it never seems to quite work out for me. Well I dont want to harp on as we all face this in this game of poker. Some run good for a change would not go amiss though, lol.
I will probably keep trying, I have some good notes on people as there is no hud use on Party, the notes are just not paying off yet.

I have been quietly playing in the background but not a lot of volume, I am pretty much back to break even now after 9k hands. Not a big sample I know but my first love is playing the horses and that is taking precedence right now and going well.
I have been watching videos and reading the forum and feel I am learning lots, certainly lots of good posters in the HH threads that I take notice of.
I seem to be checking more flops than before and my cbet has dropped to around 60%, my 3bet has gone down quite a lot to what feels like a very low 5.2, but in all honesty so many of the players on party are recreational at my limits so I dont feel that 3 bet bluffing is so important a lot of the times, of course against regs it is more important. I feel this with my c betting as well that there is no point to firing v recreationals, just betting for value is better verses them.
I have been looking at flops and what my c betting range is v my checking range and it is not so easy to balance and will take more work yet.

Heres a hand v a whale who I had a note on that he likes to donk 2nd and third pairs, whether or not this sizing and for near 100bb I wasnt sure.
I guess the thing is that in my mind I wasnt going to fold TPTK with and SPR of just less than 4 verses a whale with that note. I think I maybe could have made it a bit bigger pre, I was squeezing for value as villain was raising J6s etc, I possibly could have bet a bit bigger on flop too but only a tad. On all streets the pot size is slightly less as HM2 doesnt seem to take off the rake.
I dont know if you guys would play it the same.

I dont know how to get the players showing as UTG, UTG +1 etc, as I do think its a bit unfair to show players names, any ideas anyone, thanks.

I think PF we can make it 5x vs 2 opponents.

Post flop I might raise the turn here for value and protection but as played calling down is fine. Just obv a super weird player taking that line with QQ

Funny Jon I have had another couple of hands where they have turned their underpair or 3rd pair into a bluff similar to the one above with pretty much the same results, I generally need a read that this is what they do or are capable of, to be able to call down but there does seem a few at my place that are doing this, maybe they read about a check call line flop and donk turn somewhere but then go on to donk river too, idk tbh.

I am in the plus for the first time in a while with a few dollars profit to boot. I have just been playing less and taking it easy and not worrying about it all so much, still watching videos and reading up as much as I can though.

I am sorry I just havent played any poker as I am just not well enough for the grind, it is such a shame as I felt I was learning so much and could move forward. I will continue to read other peoples journeys and wish them plenty of luck going forward. I will continue to watch videos as and when I can and hopefully take it all in and keep up with how the game moves forward.

Why am I such a losing player? This is my fourth or so go at playing this game. I have been back playing for about 2 months now and nothing has changed I just consistently lose. This is not a rant or anything of the sort, I am just talking to myself to try and learn why I just keep losing, hopefully talking to myself on here will help me to get it.
Despite reading and watching videos I have never been a winner at this cash game poker. I never even have a winning spell, I thought even losing players would have a winning spell now and again, but it never happens.
I watch video after video, read article after article, but still I consistently lose.
I have been playing off and on because of health issues and other things for about two years now. I can only play in 1.5 hour bursts so I mainly play for keeping occupied and keeping my brain challenged, but it would be nice to be at least break even, which I feel should at least be achievable for me.
My poker history shows that I have played about 40k hands and am losing in the region of 16BI. In the last two months I am down 8BI, currently havent had a winning day for about 9 days now and it hurts and I get so frustrated. I watch others who play worse than me rake in the cash(perhaps they are better than me). I have good temperament and dont suffer from tilt, I dont chase lost money just concentrate on each hand as it comes along.
I have no poker friends although I have tried, no one to talk to about the game, I read the HH on the forum, watch all the videos, but still I lose.
I am determined to be at least break even in the future, just not sure how to turn it all around.

Last 3 days I lost 46, 20 and 41, might as well face it I am just no good at this game as much as I try. I seem to get the worst possible run outs every time, just leaking money. I have tried hard to get help but never get any, I cant afford coaching and I never get any comments in my journey. I still think comparing myself to the player pool I should be good enough to win, but getting beat up every day is just no good and the mistakes start creeping in.

In that last hand... it's tough and I've been caught out there in the past on those flops. Problem for us is that we're multiway and this guy has all the sets in his range. So when someone jams all in on such a dry board multi-way after you've shown this strength then it's sets all day. Just something we have to drum into ourselves. ALTHOUGH... if you have a history on the guy in question and notes he is crazy for no reason then that's different of course. But yes... annoying hand but don't beat yourself up, just look at the situation and it'll tell you what it has to be.

Also one thing I'd suggest. Something I know helps me a lot when I go through some real rough variance... is to take a 2 or 3 day break. And on the last day before you play again, spend some time watching vids or reading/studying on a certain area you get stuck with. Taking the break really refreshes your mind and helps get you out of the negative mindset that a bad run can put you in. It's something I force myself to do these days and it works wonders.

Where are you playing at right now?
Posted 7 years ago
Hi Grocker - I am playing at Party poker its where I played all my poker life as I love the software and competition is supposedly soft and on the whole I think it is. Because of my situation I cant grind per say but more play a small amount of time every day or play in short bursts as it were. Its hard to play at other sites as they want too much verification and I have had problems with that before and I am basically happy at Party though very limited rakeback.
So I play more to keep my brain active but of course I am not trying to play to lose.

Alas not a lot of change results wise, though I havent got too much further behind, just a little. I know I make mistakes but I do feel that I am just not getting the right spots, it seems that I never hit a card in the bigger pots, I catch cards aplenty when the pot is small or when I am ahead anyway, so this means that I am never getting to win enough with my big hands and lose more with my marginals, maybe this is just running bad too. Same with preflop, I get 3 bet and 4 bet to buggery when I raise co with A7s, or 3 bet bluff from blinds, but when I got AA everyone folds, it must turn one day.
Because of this I feel confidence is low and I start getting mixed up in when to bet or check or whatever.
So many where I play just seem to mash the 3/4 pot button or 3 bet so large, yet right now they seem to be winning, its confusing.

I was doing okay on the week until the disaster day today happened, we all know how it is you miss every flop, you 3 bet and miss or 3 bet and bet your nfd etc etc and it all adds up to a couple of BI down. I am now currently 13 BI down after 19k hands since I restarted playing, I will continue to do my best, though so we will see how it goes.
Posted 7 years ago
maybe take a week and play nl10 .
less to loose and maybe easier competition to boost that bankroll and confidence.
take a look at that redline too
Posted 7 years ago
I looked at my red line when I VPIP only and it looks okay to me. I am losing heavily in the blinds I guess. I have had a small winning turn this last few days finding a couple of spots and also been spewed to in a couple of places.

If ever your confidence is feeling lower and you're unsure in spots, always feel free to move down the limits a little to correct things.
