Let tea lead the way, another poker journey

Posted 8 years ago

Hello to all you virtual card wizards!

This will be my new place to post about my current grind.
I'll be playing 4NL Hold'em (euro), 6 max cash games on Titan Bet Poker with a flat 20% rakeback running on my account. I'll try to work my way up through the microstakes and hopefully into the small stakes.

It's the start of October so I thought I'd start this journey here and then I can post updates (maybe daily?) of how my sessions have gone and my feelings that day etc and see how this month goes.

So anyway, who am I?

Well firstly my name is Dan, and I'm from Northwest England in the UK.
I love tea. It will help fuel my grind and grow more brain cells.
Every session will begin with a freshly made tea.

I used to play on Fully Tilt about 7 years back before all the drama happened there, and luckily I took out my money before it kicked off.
I ran $10 up to 2.5k and had to pay off car insurance and what not because I'd just learnt to drive at the time and for a 21 year old male, it's not the best thing. Especially as my car type didn't really give me a small price on it. It was actually 1.7k for the insurance alone.

But anyway, I decided to take my money out. Because I really thought I was on a bit of a heater in those days. I came 6th in a big $1 tournament that ran on Full Tilt in those days (the Daily Dollar) and out of 9900+ players, so that gave me a $270 boost near the beginning. I played a mixture of MT Sit n gos and some cash, and sometimes got reckless with my stakes.
I feel like my play these days is much better, however I guess the games are too. But I'm sure if I put my time in to study each day then I can work out a decent win rate.

I'm very disciplined these days at least, and will stick to what I play until I am able to jump up to the next level.

So anyway, on to business.

I start with £73.50

Hands played today (Oct 1st) - 2005

£72.36 end result so that's -£1.14.

Not a perfect start, but I didn't feel like I was playing terrible and making a ton of mistakes. I've analysed a few situations and seeing how I could have prevented some loss. I was up for most of the session, but ran into a period where I had to make a series of big folds due to bad runouts against some whale lag players. It seemed like a period where I was getting played back at in every situation and all I could do was just keep cool and let it pass.

I've posted an AK hand that I lost in the line checks.

I've noticed a few regs that are always in the games when I play. And maybe a name of a Poker VIP member. I will try to get in the good games mainly, and hopefully get 6 tables running at a time.

I'll try to watch videos each day and read various articles to keep my mind a bit more in the zone.

Well I guess that's it for now.

Until next time... I'm going to make a cuppa tea.

Oioi nice intro buddy and i will be following this thread daily. 2500 hands in a day....your my kind of grinder!

Have you checked outthis competition? Seems like something which could really help improve your game and also just your general mindset towards poker. Thoughts?

What do you do outside of poker? What comes first poker or girls? poker or beer?

Hah, yeah I'd be interested for sure. I believe I sent you a video. Not sure if you did get it.
Anythng that can improve my game... I'm interested in! But I also want to do the team justice.

Outside of poker, I mainly play music. I'm a guitarist and play gigs each weekend, some weddings as well. I teach guitar also.
So my life can be pretty social. Well I taught my GF to play poker and so now I can have both at the same time... result Smile

I like a drink here and there, cider mainly but I'm not fussy. I try not to mix the two that much, poker and drink that is. I know what can happen...

Do you play speed tables or regular? Thats a good volume you've got going on! At what point will you be moving up to 10NL?

Hey there. Yes I've also noticed you quite a few times. How's the variance treating you?

Good luck to you!

I play regular tables. Up to 6 usually. I'll move up to 10NL whenever my bankroll allows it. At the moment I'm having a tough time with variance so I can't say much.

Well this is the update for Oct 2nd. I'm done for now, had a bit of a crap time in general.

Some loose fish again causing me a bit of trouble in position when I kept blanking boards and a lot of Cbets not working and get 4bet left right and centre.
It just seemed that I had a lot of bad timing. I'm going to sit and watch some videos for a bit now.

Hands played today - 1459

Balance = £72.71 so that's +£0.35 for the day and £-0.79 overall.

A break even day pretty much but at least I have earned some more rakeback.
So in general I've been finding that even when things have run bad. I haven't ever lost a bunch of buyins at once. I tend to dip below and then move back up.
So although my variance hasn't been great, I'd expect my line wouldn't be too rocky. I'm hoping for a bit of a heater to happen anyway.
I still feel I have some leaks that really need plugging, but I'm hopeful I can keep improving. My motivation is there, I just hope my skill level and long term results can follow.

Here's to a good month to follow!

Well today is a birthday for someone close to me... and I'm not going to have time to play.
I did however put in a few hands before I got distracted, but I can do no more today because it's time to do birthday stuff in the day and socialize during the night.

So here goes

Hands played... a whopping 67!

Current balance = £76.56

So that's a profit of £3.85 today and an overall profit of £3.06

So not not many hands at all, but at least it's a profit.

Hey, Grocker6, do you have a rakeback deal with another site? Imo you should take any ipoker deal in this site with a 30% RB + 10% rakerace. Your bankroll will not regret it, specially when variance hit the wrong way xd. I have nothing to complain about the deal with guys here, the best support and everything always is in order.

Cheers mate!
Posted 8 years ago
Yeah the support and deal is great. I don't have any other rakeback deals right now. I'm not sure how to get other deals. Do you have any running?

Ok so as I mentioned. Not had a lot of time to play poker over the weekend. I was out drinking and celebrating a Birthday on the Saturday and the Sunday I played a very small session but I felt a bit low on energy so I cut it short. I wasn't hungover as such, but I felt a bit tired and didn't want to make any tiredness related mistakes. Put in some very small sessions though and luckily found some players who hate money.
And I mean HATE money.

I've also got my rakeback today for £7.90, which was more than I thought I'd get actually.

One particular player came in for full stack and was literally all in every single hand. I tried to trap with a hand that had him dominated, but another guy pushed over the top behind and I had to fold.
Then came this hand. As I said, this guy was showing up with whatever he happened to be dealt and shipped it.

This was the fun hand of the day...

Me(SB) $4 - VP:19 PFR:15 AF:2.4 W:24|51 STL:45|85 3B:6|56 CB:63|53 N:15.46
JRonline(BB) $4 - VP:86 PFR:86 AF: W:100|0 STL:100|0 3B:100| CB: N:-8.46 Hands:7
Romashka134(UTG) $4.42 - VP:22 PFR:17 AF:3.3 W:22|48 STL:48|88 3B:2|80 CB:49|60 N:4.67
ImFishman(CO) $1.46 - VP:14 PFR:11 AF:11.0 W:33|0 STL:25|72 3B:4| CB:33|100 N:-2.23 Hands:160
doggod123321(BTN) $2.66 - VP:54 PFR:17 AF:1.7 W:52|50 STL:19|100 3B:0|33 CB:56|17 N:5.36 Hands:59

Pre Flop: Me(SB) with [8s,As]
Romashka134(UTG) folds, ImFishman(CO) folds, doggod123321(BTN) folds, Me(SB) calls 0.02, JRonline(BB) raises 3.96, Me(SB) calls 3.96

Flop: (7s,5s,9d)

Turn: (Ks)

River: (Qs)

Final:
Me(SB) wins 7.47
JRonline(BB) mucks [4h,2c]

Completing preflop because I knew what was going to happen.
So that was kinda risky, but hey... was fun.

So

Current balance = £90.56

That's an overall current profit of £17.06 (rakeback included)

Not sure on the exact number of hands played in the couple of small sessions, but probably around 450-500.

I'll get back on the grind again as soon as I can and get those numbers in.

Big up the Minion massive! Those things are going to take over the world one day........can you imagine?

Ok! Time for today's update.

Had a pretty fun session! Again I had the bad end of variance with some hands.

I had AA on a 524 rainbow beat by a half stack who shipped the flop in a 4bet pot with AJs high, only for the turn and river to complete his backdoor flush.

Another hand I had JJ vs a half stack who had A7 high on a rag rainbow flop again and got it in on flop after calling my 3bet PF, only for the turn and river to be AA.

But hey... that's the fun of a normal session I guess. I'd be in a lot more profit if I held, but today wasn't one of those days.
Also I had J high flush beat by Q high flush when we both played it pretty tricky. And I got stacked with K high flush vs A high flush.
But I took a lot of pots with some well timed aggression. And Somehow after the bad fortune, I still made a profit. I think it partly goes down to my mindset being tilt free and in the zone.
I started the day also with another £3.90 rakeback put into my account. I guess there's a bit of a lag from updates, and so part of the rake I've earned for the week end up put into my account the next day. Overall I made £11.29 rakeback for the week.

Hands played today - 1023

Profit from hands played only... +£1.76 today.

Balance = £95.62 which puts me in a total profit of £22.12

I enjoyed the ups and downs of the session today. And really enjoying playing right now. I just wish I could hold up a bit more often. Because most of my big hands where I had the other guys in drawing badly... I lost. So I can see a good few sessions where I run good are due!

Good luck for everyone else at the tables!
Posted 8 years ago
Loved how you said "i enjoyed the ups and downs of today". I think once people accept this and have this good attitude then poker becomes a lot more fun and easier to handle.
Posted 8 years ago*
Yes Jon, well it's an accepted part of what will happen during sessions, the beats are something any player serious about their game will need to get over. I've had trouble in the past like anyone else, but I'm happy to say these things aren't affecting me at all like that right now.

Well it's another day. I've tried to get in a few hands today. The games weren't great earlier and I couldn't get many table open so I waited till late afternoon/evening and got a session of 3 tables on the go. Now I have to stop and get ready to head out to a jam night (a night where musicians and people who generally love live music come to play various songs/jam with each other and socialise) in my area. So it should be a fun night and it's something I do regularly as if you didn't know, I'm a guitarist and my girlfriend is a drummer!

The session had it's ups and downs as usual, but more ups today I think Smile
Not a big session at all, but I kept in the games I thought were good and left a couple of reggy tables when I could have kept them going.
Made some good calls vs some agressive regs here and there and stacked a couple of of the weaker players.

Total hands played today - 454

Current balance = £103.21

So that's a profit of £7.59 today and and overall profit of £29.71

Keep in mind that the 4 euro tables I play means a full stack is worth £2.96 right now.

Feeling pretty happy with how things are going. Wished I could have got a few more hands in, but I can't complain.

Take it easy everybody! Smile
