My 5-10NL Poker Grind

Posted 8 years agoEdited 8 years ago

My name is Jared and I'm from Toronto,Canada. I primarily play 5 NL on stars with some shots at 10NL. I play on average 3-5 hours per day, 8 tables. My very first hand of poker was back in February of 2015 and since then I've come a long way.

I started off donking away cash playing tournaments but decided to get serious and improve my game in June 2015 playing 5NL cash on stars. Of course at first I struggled and was definitely a loosing player for a few months. Since then I've improved and become a small winning player (about 3.5bb/100) at 5NL over a very large sample (about 400k hands). I've shotted 10NL a few times but ran bad and had to move back down.

My goal is to be playing 10NL very shortly. I do have 30BI at the moment but would feel much more comfortable with about 40BI. I'll take some shots periodically and keep this thread updated.

I'll be posting my graphs and some hands as well after sessions.

Appreciate any feedback, support, questions, etc.

Really looking forward to moving up the stakes and making 2016 a great year of poker.

Thanks Jon. A reg was talking about this forum in one of my tables so I decided to check it out. I'm really enjoying it so far, thanks for all that you do.

Pretty rough session. Couldn't seem to get anything going. Oh well, ran great so far this month.

Villian is 17/11/3 28 WTSD over 3.5k hands.

Pre: I call in the BB with 90o from a BTN raise.

Flop: Flop it. Standard check call here.

Turn: After he bets I expect his range to be heavy on QJ, KJ, AJ+... Maybe 77, 88. I raise to .80 which I think is fine to keep in tptk and tpgk.

River: Very interesting. I lead for a little over half pot and get raised significantly. I couldn't see him bluffing here based on our past and his style. How often is he calling the turn with a flush draw? I couldn't understand why KJ and sets are raising this river so I found a fold.

Thoughts?

Hy Jared. First of all I wish you welcome and luck at the tables. For that hand I think you fold great at river. I'm playing a lot at this stakes and that tipe of player NEVER EVER push river without some kind of nuts so I assume he had something like AcXc. You only beat KK ( I don't think he would play other sets that passive on turn ) here but lose from lot other combos ( AcXc, JcXc, QcTc, Qc9c ).
I think you x/r little on turn. I would make it a little bigger ( maybe 1.1 $ )

Thanks Murtao, really appreciate the feedback. I agree the x/r on the turn needs to be bigger. The reg nits usually fold tptk or tpgk when I make it to big and because I don't semi bluff turns enough my in game thought process was to make the raise smaller.

That's also okey thought process, I sometimes also bet smaller to extract value from really bad hands Smile Maybe this is one of my leaks but when board start to get wety I like to bet bigger just because you can often see Jokerstars K.O. you on river hahaha Laugh

Played some live last night and ran into some serious coolers lol :). Pretty short session but still made a small profit. Logged on when I got back at like 2 AM, had a few beers and crushed.

Another good session yesterday Smile About to do a 5 BI shot at 10NL. Any advice or standard practices you recommend when moving up?

Just play your normal game. People are not exploting you!

I play 10nl at the moment and I personally think an absolute crucial thing to remember is that at 10nl, the majority of the players are still poor, even the regs.
Don't over adjust and start playing differently.
Play the same and then start to implement the necessary changes to crush those stakes too.
Table select well and you'll be fineπŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

Thanks for the confidence boost Houdini101 & Fisken. Played some 5 and 10 NL today, came across a few tricky spots. I'll go through my PT4 soon and post a hand or two.

Some really solid volume there and a good win rate!

I notice you finished your session when on kind of a downswing was that on purpose?

Yea I played about 1.5k hands of 5NL and then moved to 10NL. Lost 2 BIs and then decided to end the session, I was feeling tired and it was late. Here's the past three days grinding 10NL. I reduced to 6 tables for now and will move back to 8 when I feel comfortable at 10NL.

Graph for the past three 10NL sessions. All In Adj is a joke though.
