Running It Up!

Posted 8 years agoEdited 8 years ago

Okay guys, so I've exams in a few days and basically doing everything I can to procrastinate. I am a 21 year old student, graduating in 6 months and aiming to build enough money to take a year or two out of life and play poker/travel the world.
So I opened a new account on iPoker through PokerVIP and deposited £100, aiming to reach a minimum of £2k by the end of June when I graduate. This will solely be through cash games.
I was previously staked over the summer through PokerVIP but unfortunately it didn't work out for me and it takes a huge time commitment. But I would definitely recommend it and have encouraged a few of my poker friends to signup and aim to join.

Live games are super soft in Ireland but I simply don't have the bankroll to play them, so I'll be aiming to move to them in the summer when I finish university. I'm also a massive Run It Up/Jcarver fan, his Youtube videos really helped improve my poker game and take it to the next level.
I'll also be aiming to get my fitness back in check, since going to university I've definitely let myself go, so aiming to get into a strict exercise schedule which I'll work out soon.

Any live events I play I'll also keep updated on this forum, I played a satellite for the EPT Dublin last week when there was 1 package and I came 3rd! So if i somehow bink one of them it'll be an amazing experience. There's also a student event or two coming up within the next few months so they should be tournaments that I'm realistically aiming to win!
So I need to study for the next 2 weeks and then I'll be getting back to poker! I may fit a few sessions in during my study breaks.

Quick checklist which I am aiming to have completed by 30th June 2016:
- Reach £2k online bankroll
- Deep run in live student events
- Play the Irish Open (€1100 buyin, aiming to win an online satellite)
- Run 5km in 23 mins (the last run/walk I did this in 43 mins)

Hey mate!

Very nice targets there! What subject/s are you doing at Uni?

I do the 5k stuff, currently on around 35mins aiming to get it to less than 30 mins by the end of Jan! Would you come over for the Grosvenor Student Championships? Sound ace, shame I'm just a couple years out to be eligible Sad

I'm studying accounting, and I already cannot wait to graduate and be finished. It's really not the most exciting of subjects!

That's awesome, one day me & you can do a marathon:P

I'm definitely considering it! It simply depends on my life roll at the time. Being a student sucks whenever it comes to paying for stuff! The loan doesn't make it too far.
There's a few coming up in Ireland but they're never that big, theres also an U21 event at the EPT Dublin and this will be the last year I'm eligible so I'll definitely aim to play that if I'm not in the main!

So I havn't played regularly online in a while so I just played 1k hands to get back into the swing of things. Started off pretty steady and then ran into a few coolers/bad hands and had a roller coaster for the next 500 hands. I tagged a few hands I've to review but I feel pretty happy for the most part and I'm pretty happy with my mental game so tilting is a minimal factor.
I couldn't get my HUD to appear for the first few hundred hands so sort of felt I was playing in the dark!
I'm pretty happy with my red line and its a tiny sample size to even think about much!

Well this makes me happy!! oioiiiiiiiiii

first of all Fizzics is one of those players i know can really crush this game if he sorts his mindset/lifestyle/tilt/priorities out. He has a certain something which i think is probably no fear and also a very quick learner. I think staking although we failed with it probs helped you go back to the basics, sort some shit out and now it will carry you forwards. So yeh a talented player who WILL crush this year.

Really hope you keep this blog updated and don't let it fizzle out. I am personally very interested to see how quick you climb the stakes and hit this target.

So I've a rakeback deal up to 30% depending on my VIP level on the site. So the higher my level, the better conversion rate I receive for store points to cash.
I've played around 10k hands and have basically broke even so far without rakeback. I found my graph was like a yo-yo and was -5BI and then +3 and back and forth. So I reduced tables I was playing from 6 to 2 and found this really helped improve my game and allowed me to concentrate more on hands I was playing.

I'm also discussing with a few friends about prop bets for running 5km in X minutes, if anyones any decent ideas please let me know! The last time I did this was in 43:43 but I wasn't exactly aiming for my best time.
Also heading to the All Ireland Student Championships on the 17th, which I doubt will be well attended as I've talked to other students and societies throughout the country and none seem to be attending due to not being aware of the event and not having enough time to prepare! But I'm heading down with a few friends for the weekend and beer. It'd be nice to start this log with a live win which is obviously separate from my online bankroll.

I'll play a few more thousand hands and get some profit before I add in some graphs!

Ha you are going to find that live game so god damn soft now after all this online grinding. Sounds like a solid trip!

Keep at it with the poker. Make sure you post the hands up in the line check area - its just free coaching so you would be mad not to.

Student championships sounds ace! Hope you have a good run and pick up a nice win to start the year off!

The student championship was super soft, I had the chip lead with 13 left, lost 2 flips with AK and then ran into AA:(

So due to exams/job interviews I didn't get playing as much as I wanted to. Then my HUD database crashed/stopped working so I sort of reset my database and the challenge!

Played 3,440 hands so far - current bankroll: £126.
I'll add rakeback at the end of the month probably when I cash it all in/include rakeraces.

Very happy so far, I'm also into phase 2 of a UKIPT sat with an above average stack on Sunday which would be nice to bink!

Legendary stuff buddy and unlucky in the comp. It is so annoying when in pure cruise mode then just run head on into the nuts.

Whats the crack for Feb?

Haha this made me laugh! The 'craic' is to start crushing.
Theres also a 100e U21 event at EPT Dublin - pretty awful structure, 10k chips, 20 min blinds but would be pretty awesome to say I took down an EPT side event! (Long as they don't ask what it was).
And this is the last year I can play it! So I'm definitely playing it, turning 22 in March so I'll probably be one of the oldest!

Last week I played a 10/20p home game with 5/6 friends and we all sit down with £40. At the end of the night I was +£220. Everyone but me and one other guy was down money. I just absolutely crushed them, and hopefully they'll continue to play with me:P We have a regular group and play every 2/3 weeks and usually I'm up £20-40 but I just played perfectly, all my reads/hero calls were correct and was able to bet for thin value and got paid!
Called one guy with Q high after he bet turn & river on KJ board and he threw up 72 (we play the 72 game too).

So after nearly 8k hands my bankroll stands at: £149! (Not including rakeback, shall include when I receive rakerace etc)
Slowly but surely making my way up, playing good, easy games and just need to keep playing and building it up!

Thanks man! I play on Coral, which is the Ipoker network, its super soft & rakeback deals make me choose it over Stars.
I'm aiming to turn £100 into £2k by the end of june, so this is only at 4nl, probably moving up to 10nl when I reach £200-250!

Mmmmm juicy home games that is one very easy to make a ton of money but also a very easy way to lose friends lol. Make sure you are getting it quietly and try to hide the amounts you are winning. Otherwise the games won't last and you will stop getting invited.
