So it begins

Posted 7 years ago

I'm making my first run on Stars with a bankroll and a serious mindset. I've messed around in poker recreationally for years but in the last few months I've had a passion rekindled with it and have decided to take it far more seriously. I still work full time so I can't dedicate more time in this project without seeing some results.

My plan is to comfortably beat 5NL, move up to 10NL whilst building a bankroll eventually eyeing the higher stakes like 50 or 100NL. In a few years I'd like to be making most of my living with playing poker, having cash games as my bread and butter and going for the big cheese occasionally in the form of large tournaments.

I am 100% convinced I can do this and make it work. I've had a penchant for any game of strategy since I first played Age of Empires and chess years ago. At it's barest bones poker is a deep and complex game of strategy that is constantly evolving which is fascinating to me. The fact that being good at this particular game of strategy can earn you a decent living is even more fascinating.

So I'm only a few days into this, graph is looking alright so far. I'll be updating this thread with tales of great victory and defeat!

Can I ask why Stars? Where are you from?

Cheers mate.

Well two reasons really, first is I really like the software and large player pools on Stars. Second is (and this might be entirely my own confirmation bias) it seems to be a little tougher to do well on Stars. Still plenty of fishy players, but there are also plenty of solid regs. Which brings me on to the second reason, I like a challenge.

I'm from Wakefield, West Yorkshire btw.

3rd time I've run into a flopped flush on this kind of board with a big hand.

In hindsight I should have got away from the other two, what do you reckon to this one?

I like this a lot!

You seem to have the attitude of no more messing around - time to get shit done which i LOVE

Cheers Jon much appreciated. The time for fuckery is indeed over.

Stubb, cheers amigo! I extend the very same to you.

Haven't been able to get nearly as many hands in this week as I'd of liked, been very busy with the job. I'm starting to think they are trying to work me to death haha. I'm hoping to get another 6-8k hands in over the weekend.

Still winning comfortably so far seem to be running OK, but obviously 6.8k hands is not enough to draw any serious conclusions about the state of my game. I could just be getting lucky :DAttached Image

Embrace the struggle bro! I think once we have the attitude of being worked to death is not a bad thing and grinding our soul away is not a bad thing then we will just crush life!

Well I currently earn my living installing/testing industrial switchgear and transformers all over the country so it would make a nice change to sit at a desk and earn myself a comfy living!

Speaking of being crushed, walked into a flopped flush AGAIN! Even with a redraw to the straight flush I couldn't pull the trigger with the bullets!

Once again been a long busy week with work! Managed to get around 7k hands in this week at various times, running okay still. Green line is still on the up and up. Really would like to have played more I'm getting more enjoyment out of the game every hand I play.

Aside from cash games I spent around 4 hours last night playing $5 spin and go on Stars. I've managed to bring my initial 70$ investment up to around $120 dollars just from playing cash games alone but after around 20+ games of S&G I'm now up over $200.

Very soft games at certain times guys! I don't think I saw a reg at all last night.

Graphs like these make me want to grind

Nice graphs here! Well done.

Nice to see that even Stars can have soft games still. It's definitely one of the reasons some choose not to play there, but then 5nl will always have hope won't it Smile Keep up the good work!

Just been so busy with work this month guys. Unfortunately only managed to get a few k more hands in since the last update, however the graph is still looking great and heading in the right direction!

I have however just taken a once in a lifetime opportunity to go help look after some rich kids in a summer school in Bulgaria for the entirety of August. Which means early morning starts but I'll have a huge gap in my day from around 9 - 4 in which I have lots and lots of downtime. I'm planning on using this time to study away from the table and also to continue to grind.

Question guys, how many hands before I can conclude I'm crushing 5NL Cheeky
