I agree that you might want to read a bit about poker mindset. The OG "Poker Mindset" book is a great resource, same goes for "The Mental Game of Poker" by Jared Tendler. You can also find plenty of articles on the subject on this very website. I know this is easier said than done but in order to play optimally, you have to focus on one hand at a time. Ideally, you wouldn't even know you were 3 buy-ins up because you shouldn't monitor your cashier/graph during the session. Unless you're making a very aggressive shot at higher stakes and there's a limited amount of buy-in's you're willing to spend on it, knowing how much you're ahead or behind during a single session offers you no strategic advantage and can negatively impact your performance. In the long run, one session is just a blip on a graph, not worthy of a strong emotional reaction like frustration.

I know we're not robots and it's hard to remain calm during a downswing but the only way of making sure that your downswings are as short as possible is by increasing your win rate. Unfortunately, mistakes caused by the way we feel during downswing (mistakes that we wouldn't make otherwise) are probably the worst thing for our win rate. That's why working on your mindset is so important.

Thanks for your replys

When you read through my blog you have to get the impression that I have problems with my mental game. I am far from perfect there but I got to the point where I can controll it. breathing techniques, taking a break and give the emotions a way out (like push ups, walking around or something)

You will find spots where I quit after a very short time because I did not get them under control. Another important technique for me is to use this forum to wine about my run-bads. Writing about it gets it off my chest and I find it easier to motivate myselfe again.

I read the poker mindset several times and I also have some videos and podcasts about this topic.

30 min 331 hands -50bb/100

called down a megaaggromanica... he had it this time...

no fun at all at the moment...
Posted 6 years ago
i even dont want to update the blog anymore

i quit after 70 min because playing makes no sense at the moment. I suck sooo much and the spots are soooo bad for me....

I took some time off and wanted to get my head clean. did not work... i just get wrecked left right and center... and for every two tilting situations at least one where i simply play bad comes along...

I really cannot handle downswings well... I took all my luck to win the tourney... now its like running aginst a wall over and over again...

I will stay away from poker for this weekend because i am not in the right mind... from monday on i will grind my ass off and take what is mine... i will fullfill my contract and make me and bts some good money... i can do it i will do it

@kuca86 thanks for the offer, I will do this in the beginning of the next week.

I had to get back to the analyzing table and omg I play badly at the moment... I have to correct my statement from above: for every bad spot I punt away a stack 3 or 4 times.... like: 4bet pot... i call with QQ. Ahigh flop (turn / river is brick city). check/check. villain bets small on the turn. i call... villain pushes all in on the river...

Right state of mind: what is his 4bet range: value: AK, QQ+; bluff tons of other Ahigh suited and AQo. maybe JJ if i am lucky but over all I am fucked and fold (to a slightly bigger bet fold on the turn)

psycho state of mind: OMG he is bluffing you have to call call call call call and run into AA....

anyway: I have to do my study constantly so i do not fall back into fish-mode. I played rather occasionally Dec/jan and lacked studying. This has to change... I will set up a time table for every day from monday on including study time, play time, fitnesscenter, and work so i have no excuses!

I will upload this timetable here and keep you guys informed about my progress.

Today I am going to do something for my heart Cool from monday on it is time to do something for the brain Nerdy

Timetable for today is nearly done.

played for 90 minutes, 1000 hands and of course i got wrecked again. -25bb/100 at least i did not play badly today... 1 nice spot and 1000 very bad ones... i will not lose my head over this... i play calmly and i will come back stronger

work check

study is still waiting

work in the evening also open.

tomorrow: fitnesscenter in the morning

work for about 2-3 hours

poker study and play for 2-3 hours

work for another 2 hours

beetime in the evening...

whenever there is time some autosuggestive training to keep my motivation high and mental game solid

study done as well for today... some spots were I thought they were close were not close at all...

I really really play badly at the moment. I am not punting away anything but I make big miscalculations. I have to do more handreading in order to get back on the horse.

The good thing is that after a good study-session i really want to play again. Today I have no time for it but I will rock the tables tomorrow Smile

I will try to upload a video this week as well. Thank you so much for your support.

Great offer from @kuca86 ! These things can REALLY help you as see things from an outside and subjective perspective and can actually do wonders! Stuff you might not do or think about, or think that you do, hearing it from someone else does drive it home. Good luck!

2nd day and my timetable got wrecked...

worked kept me busy, so no fitnesscenter and no poker for today. I fear tomorrow is going to be the same...

plan for the weekend: making a video, study for 2 hours a day and playing another 2-4 hours a day. There are no distractions (gf gone for the weekend, no clients bugging me,...) so i should be able to keep up.

I could squeeze a session into my busy workdays

1,5 hours, 1000 hands and +6,6bb/100

finally a positive session. highly needed

focussed mostly on my mental stability today and less on the game. I think i improved as i experienced lots of challenging spots.

some hands in the review section

second positive session in a row.
I played for an hour for approx. 750 hands (2 tables NL5ff and 1 Table NL10) +7,92bb/100

last 2 hands were brutal though and i stopped in order to focus on some study and mental topics.

2nd session in a row where i played really really good but mrs fortune did not look upon me. Well that happens and I have to deal with it and move on.:-)

Thank you guys for pointing out my mental game was weak the last couple of sessions. I focussed strongly on it and I improved alot!

Tonight or tomorrow i will make a video!

Yes 1 stack i tried a bluff that did not work as villain had the nuts... one or two spots I should have folded... lots of other spots were just disgusting

lets see if tomorrow runs better

ohhh this is soooo nice

finally someone else is punting away the money into my direction.

I analyzed my bad nightsession yesterday and i found out that i did not play badly at all... (for my capabilities) I just was running soooo bad. This gave me good confidence to play today.

will analyze some hands of this session and watch @kuca86 on Twitch a bit and come back for a night session. I need some more points to clear my rakeback of this week
Posted 6 years ago
and another horrible night session

2 hours, 1500 hands and -17bb/100

startet great... then Mr. Big Punter came back and fucked everything up... of course Mr. Runbad joined and so the session went into shit...

after 1k hands I recovered and came back to 0 and then i startet tu fuck up again and lost and lost and lost... i dont know... maybe this is not what I should be doing...
I wanted to get enough points to get my rakeback of 5€... in order to get there i lost 8! well done mr vollidiot

very weird afternoon

good news: I made some money...
bad news: hm2 crashes constantly -- so i do not know how much exactly
parypoker client went crazy and i had to install it new.

good spots, nice hands, good laydowns (i guess) just disciplined play and up about 6 or 7€ so my dreadfull evening yesterday lies behind me. I am close to my 400€ line again which is nice. lets keep it up

as hm2 does not work properly i did some handreviews instead of playing.

in the evening I will do some study and also play a bit as i want to clear lots of my bonus and get some good rakeback. additionally in Feb i will cash in the pokervip-chellenge. (at least this is my goal)

Everyday the same... one up, one bit more down

when you run 2 stacks below EV over 2 hours its hard to come back...

hope this gets better soon... I will try to get some volume in the next to days again... then my girlfriend comes back and i might clear my head for a couple of days... I know that i can beat this game....

NL 10 is getting close to positive figures after my devastating start at Poker
NL5ff is a trainwreck at the moment... I really need my runbad to stop...

This is now getting weird...

afternoon session and a really nice one:

close to 1.5 hours, 1027 hands and +23,34 bb/100

Afternoon 3bi up... night 3 bi down... i do that since saturday... and I am back to my 320 € roll at Party...

what did i do differently? folded a bit more and i reduced overall agression... actually i do not like that... but i will for now have to focus on getting a stable and positive green in order to focus on agression again...

I am getting there... sooner or later Smile
