Well, I'm a bit tardy again with this thing, yet another leak.

@Jon-PokerVIP I totally agree, the main thing I've been able to do is cut the fancy footwork and drop back to simple stuff meanwhile.

Started the year off just nicely tyvm but yesterday was a blank, just the usual Saturday night multiway chk/c, chk/c shenanigans is all for minus 3BI. I actually thought it would be stoploss time the way things went, but the tables started to break up after about 2K hands.

You know the one; 0ooo wow, look at this feckin' bunch of droolers, woohoo, some easy money to be ha ... owned. Speechless

Today I was down 2.5BI in the first 20 hands, whew! Finishing down 1BI after 500 or so was down to me being so bloody awesome and nothing to do with any rungood, luck, favourably kind variance or any other superstitious horseshoe malarkey [because] I don't do superstition - honest guv it wasn't, honest. Touch wood it continues I say...

Poker is going ok actually, if I could just hit a nice weekend. The OPL season, on the other hand ends soon and has been a bit of a disaster. I play to win it but do like bubbling the FT etc which obv kills my points tally. Maybe, given I don't play them all, I should have played a bit more to just get there. Meh, can't see me doing that and I made a bit of profit out of them by winning the first one so freerolling now really. Next time, next time.

So that should do it for now. Nothing much to report on the old personal side of things except I found out I probably won't be able to work again, something I already felt. Just means the table service goddess will have to keep going fora bit, at least until I get a decent run at poker.

And we didn't have a Christmas party this year which suited me just fine (grinch alert) My sister has to do the baking and all that crap on her todd, which is getting hard to do with a deaf, dumb and blind kid who wont leave her arms and gets fed through a tube direct and a wheelchair-bound son to look after. Now my brother in law has some weird stops breathing when he sleeps thing going on. Wtf is that all about!? So I told her don't bother, have a break ffs.

Let's hope everybody stays well and you have a great 2016 with no stress - ye well, it's a nice thought! Sun

Don't worry about the OPL. Just play them out, try your best and what will be will be. Season 2 starts mid Feb, we will be more prepared, understand it all more and be ready to win a ton of money. For me the OPL has gone OK i guess but a fail in my eyes. Winning so far a GoPro, iWatch, 200 euros in cash prizes and due somewhere from $200-500 from the leaderboard sounds nice but lets face it...its 5k FTW of the league and its gutting not to be anywhere near it. I was really put through it this season and took a ton of BS but 2 events to go, if i win them both i make top 3, if not i will be ready to scoop season 2.
Posted 8 years ago*
So that's the OPL out the way for me for this season, it's sucks a bit not being able to play enough of them, but whatever.
Good luck to all those who got to top end and well played!

Poker going ok, I've stripped my game back to simplify it, dumping most of the backdoor this and he may be bluffing that, kinda stuff. It seems to be working so far but 10K is nothing to work with.
I'm also stealing a few more blinds and generally being more aggressive. If I'm not aggressive enough these guys call down all day, if I am they can dump 2nd pair a lot by the river. On the flip side, if I get called down holding a weak hand it does no harm, people remember a bluffer!

Bet bet bet, bet bet bet, bet bet bet, bet bet...So, what's it like to tilt a reg so bad he doesn't know what he's doing anymore Mal?

Wadya mean, like stealin' his blinds and 3betting him all over the place and betting his pants off, then showing a small 3-barrel bluff v a weak player the hand before and the reg calls me a fish and gives me abuse because he hasn't won a pot off me all night?
That sort of thing?

Ye, that's the sort of thing, ye.

Oh, I'm not sure, does this count?

Ye, something like that. Bowing

I actually targeted this guy because he seemed on the edge after a few folds versus me.

So anyway, I'll try this simple stuff out for a bit and see how that goes for a week or so, that should be long enough versus these guys to tell if I'm getting it right(ish).

Oooooooo, the Sun came out this morning, blue sky and stuff! It didn't last too long but it's been a long time since I could look out the window and say, 'Wow, nice day today!'.

I may post some of what I do in another post, see if people laugh or not.

Have a sunny day everybody. Sun

Don;t worry about the OPL - Season 2 coming up and more sites included so be ready for that.

Really like your approach to the game and i think it comes from maturity. Basically everyone just wants to rush but you want to get things right and you don't think about the short term. It is so refreshing as a backer to have someone like that and i can see visibly in the chat it rubs off on the others.

It really is a life long game!
Posted 8 years ago*
Don't bloody miss much do you!? Cool

As for maturity, hmmm; please tell my mrs that for me! You may have to wait for your reply until she stops laughing though!

Actually I read somewhere on here, possible by the mighty w34z4l (?), that we should work on leaks for maybe a week each until the correct move is ingrained. A see a lot of people posting about a leak, getting the fix for it, try it out and move on to the next. Well, if I do that I forget by the next day what I did and probably make it worse. so, I just try to get it right then move to the next thing.
I think I have preflop down 'ok' for a microfish, so now it's off to the flop for me; but I'm serious when I say I haven't got preflop crushed yet, it's too hard, a lot harder than one might think taking a peek at superficial levels.

And let's hope the game doesn't take too long to get right please... Time

Having the most fun at poker ever so far.

Bring...it...on...

So anyway, found a few problems with my nooo and improooved game. Those damned multi-way nofoldemholdem pots! Can't use it there so have to adjust of course but usually end up like a nit at 18/14. Meh whatever wins money eh?
I am having fun though, but obviously not as much fun as our mysterious noob stakee, who seems to have owned Unibet for 8BI on the first fucking day! Hate 'em already, fucker, just embarrassing me.

Anyhoo, for those of you who like zoo animals, here's my giraffe from the 5th Jan, after having a very nice chat with the bossman at the beginning of the month:

Attached Image

That zig-zaggy bit is me trying to adjust to the villains mentioned earlier. I have a sneaky it will be like that anyway versus those guys. Still, it's a step in the forward direction at least.

Have a nice weekend and let's hope the UK dries out for the unfortunate people up country.

Mal Content, out for a beer.

Submitted a review vid but not my greatest hour. It was an ok session but the games were very passive. I made a couple of betting mistakes but if I can buy the big blind for 10c why give spend 12? Sometimes I go to 8 with atc, so whatever works v nits and weaktight guys init.

Found out the crusher on Unibet is one of the gang who moved over and not a noob, so that's ok then I can like them again. Cheeky Let's hope they keep it going we've had a nice start to the month at least.

Mrs Mal is back to work tomorrow but her back is still hurting so we'll see how that goes. My dog has more medicine for her arthritis and now thinks she's 2 again. Nice to see that actually, makes me smile.

I've nearly got my game going like I want so I can start adding more 3bets in shortly but not quite yet, just not needed, nor all this 4bet bluff stuff from SB 'with blockers' and all that gubbins, not yet. To paraphrase JonVIP, 'The simple stuff works, who'd have guessed that one eh?' Cool

Fish on a heater, works for me.

Good night and have fun.

Really sick work there and good job stepping back and sorting it. Ready for 10nl?

Yeh thought you knew it was olo who went to unibet considering you was there for the entire conversation lol.
Posted 8 years ago
Oh ye, been so busy with my poker game I forgot all about that, hahaha wot a muppet!

I fairly sure I'm ready for nl10, the games are similar if memory serves, but there's only one way to find out init! Muscle

Posted 8 years ago
Good grief we're into the runup to the end of January already, doesn't time fly when you having fun!

I just noticed it's been 5 days since my last confession, so let's get on with it.

Poker is going ok, moved up to nl10 but sometimes games are a bit sparse, or those weak/tight/passive pass the bloody parcel with the blinds yawnfests.
Seems nl10 is much like nl4 in that there is a dearth of games on a Wednesday and often Thursday especially during the day, but that just gives me time to sort out my strategy stuff and do some forum reading/posting etc.

I just sit out and add a couple of nl4s instead for a while, go where the game is good, sit out when it aint. It means on occasion my hand count is down, like I played 400 or 500 hands or thereabouts two days in a row, but that's not a problem if the games are no good or I get a bad seat. It's easy to make that up on better days.

Tried out blaze at nl4 and found those games were super soft but PT4 doesn't track the hands and I can't have the HH to import either which kinda sucks. Spoiled my lovely graph a bit to, graph goes downhill yet I won 2BI. Bah humbug.
Of course the other problem is I can't post hands and stuff from there either unless I take some sort of screenshot. Maybe I'll make a vid of it.
I'll still play blaze if the games are looking good though on occasion.

Results this month are looking ok now, so I hope I can keep it going until February, that would be fun.

I'll post my first 5 days foray back into nl10 and again at the end of the month. Hopefully I'll need to turn the graph 90 degrees to make room to get the top in by then! Cheeky

Anyway, still keeping it really really basic and it's still working so I'll leave it at that for now. Of course it does make finding hands to post a bit awkward, I mean, 'It's poker Jim, but not as we know it!'

Later peeps, play your best, run good, rub money on titties. Easy game.

Here's my fish on a heater pic:

Finally the graph brag!

Super impressive dude and yeh just love the way you approach this game and it will just keep getting better and better. 12 winning days in a row was insane and they were all solid numbers. Numbers like this makes you one of the biggest winners in the game so no more fish talk. Have confidence and keep crushing.
Posted 8 years ago
@Jon-PokerVIP , thank you for the encouragement sir, it's you attitude to it all that keeps me from straying from the path of righteousness.

Well Saturday ended up being a pimple on the arse end of the month, but I got it back on track Sunday...just...for +! euro no less! Clap Monday was ok to but yesterday was just epic.
Started at nl10 and lost 26 euros very bloody quickly, which left me 4euro before stoploss. Hmmmm, change of tack needed here, so took a break then sat at 1 tab of nl4. If I win I open another one, if I lose I sit out for a stoploss of -3BI day. Puke

Needn't have worried really, the games were so much fun I ended up playing 6 tables, running up 2.3K hands, emptying two bottles of Chateau du Asda merlot and crawling off to bed when the tables went crap at 01:20 ish a.m after posting a 7 hour session.! Bowing

Fk it, brag alert;

Owned. Devil

Ended the day 8euro in profit but the nl10 games were poor by that time.

My goal now is to post winners for the next few days for an epic month, hopefully at nl10 but I'll go where the game is good. I hate all that pass the parcel nonsense.

So, weather here is horrendously stormy, I hope you guys and gals are faring better.

Have fun, run good.

Great stuff. Really just shows losses don't mean anything in the long term side of the game.

Yep in general it's all good so far and things are coming together nicely, thanks Jon.

Had a sad face day today, the refuse-to-fold bad reg types either had it or hit it, whichever they needed. Not much to be done about that.
I clicked sit out next big blind and didn't take my own advice of sitting out straight away - it cost me two buyins by the time they blinds came round.

So here's the rod that broke the camel's back:

Wow, just a couple of days left to the month to get this all ingrained, then it's go git 'em Februray.

One thing that will be ingrained after my poor showing yesterday is discipline. Not playing tilty-stupid or getting out of line superbad or anything like that, but breaking the sit out immediately rule. That's twice in a week it's cost me, it's not happening again.

Not sure what 'extras' I'll incorporate into my game for next month yet either, probably defending versus 3bets or defending blinds, these are very common situations. I know what to have as starting ranges etc., etc., but that's not going to help if I play the wrong range versus the wrong villains and so on.
I'm not going to go the whole hog and start playing fancy looser ranges from each position like some people advocate because I think it's too much for me; 3bet/bluffing and 4bet this and flat some combos if they're red (or blue, or pink, or tartan) and fold/ship the rest and all that gubbins that's for sure.

Why a specific colour of combos anyway, has anyone even asked how that will make a difference? How the fk does a combo colour affect our play at nl5/nl10 ffs! I have a sneaky suspicion the answer is 'nope', I have a feeling many will just trot along behind and not understand - and we all know where playing a strategy we don't understand leads don't we guys and gals - enter the GTO fanboys at nl5; 'nuff sed really.
Yes yes, plenty of info out there to explain it and I actually do know, but seriously, how many will ask or research that deep at the error prone and weak mindset microstakes, seriously.

Now, don't get me wrong, I can see nothing wrong with learning all this stuff, it just seems a bit over he top when you play villains who call your wonderfully timed 3 barrel bluff on a perfect board down with 3rd pair, or just open ship 85bb from utg, or 5x/fold the BU 1st in and all that fun stuff.

Yes obviously we need some of it and we need more as we move up, but perfectly balanced ranges and playing a perfectly balanced game will not allow us to take advantage of the weakest players it seems to me becasue we will be playing our range the same versus everybody. I am absolutely not even close to any sort of authority on this kind of thing, I'm just coming at it from a hugely exploitative (not exploitive, yeauch) view so I could so easily be talking through my arse yet again. So enlighten me if I need it, if not, meh, catch it later.

Aaaannd relax.

So, my poorly unprofessional writing ability will no doubt get me flamed for being a muppet, but I can only say what I think from my own experiences, respond as you see fit if you're bored enough to be still reading this.

In other news, my mrs isn't very well at all and is still in bed. I think walking back and fore to work too often is wearing her out and it's saddening to watch. Thinking positively for a moment though, it does give impetus to my learning, a thin veneer of escapism in truth but true nonetheless.

Ok, wow I can talk for fkn Wales guys, enough waffle.

You all have a super weekend and let's hope the sun comes out, the weather is quite bad here.

Posted 8 years ago*
So, thinking about what I have learned this month.

Having a plan for a hand preflop is paramount - and sticking to it isn't, I need fluidity as the board and actions develop. Well that's ok, I can change my mind at the drop of a hat anyway and call it 'adjusting to villain' Lol.

I also dumped all that fancy stuff like 4bet bluffing except in very rare cases to. Not sure how to find out but I don't think it's costing me much if anything.

All in all the idea is just keep it simple, so no reverse inducing 3bet chk/r merging double floats for moi - whatever all that crap means. Cheeky

My coach will be very pleased to hear I have increased my cbet sizing when I have a good hand- and not so pleased that I can still sometimes stack off TPTK v a whale for 100bb+. Sigh, microstakes players, what can you do eh? Blush

Unfortunately, even though I can berate myself and often do, I'm no longer allowed to call myself a fish, which kinda leaves me floundering (see what I did there It wasn't me! around for an alternative. I'd actually chosen Crusher Mal but then went and hit bloody stoploss the other day so that fkd it. Bah, foiled again.

Plan for next month? Nail down postflop and stop deviating from the strategy I'm trying out, it does seem to be working quite well after all.

On the downside, my game is so simple it isn't so easy to find hands where I didn't know what I was doing.
Most of the time I get lost is when I deviate from it and chuck in some fancy play for no logical reason whatsoever and get all fkd up. Cutting that shit out toot sweet bro!

This has the knock-on effect of my not posting heaps of hands where I had no idea because I play simple and when I don't it's easy to spot post game.

Any suggestions welcome, but I'll likely be adding some more advanced stuff next month anyway, so that will give me food for thought.

That's about it really, I'm off to watch my buddies vid and then see if I can end the month on a high, it's been a bit wobbly last few days for various reasons (see giraffe below).

You all run good and I hope your month went better than you expected and February goes better than you hoped even. See you in Februray.

Quick update,

Just played the worst session ever in the history of evers. Very good lesson and one that was maybe needed, wont happen again.

Have a good one everybody and make sure it's fun. Smile
Posted 8 years ago
What was the lesson, Pwll? Sad Tomorrow is another day with a blank page start in your daily graph.
Posted 8 years ago
Ha epic post there buddy! love the way you write.

Well if you can't post tricky hands then to me the answer is obvious - reply to tricky hands LDO. Smile

Simple is good and glad to hear you are getting much more value. I think hearing of GTO has a lot of players missing a lot of value. Yes its great to be GTO but in the micros when your opponents don't know what GTO is it will not be the best strat. Exploit to the maximum!
Posted 8 years ago*
Hi there @dodger and thanks for popping in!

The lesson was focus, if you can't focus, sit out. That's simple enough to do yes? For the big guns like @Jon-PokerVIP it's not even a consideration, they just do it. For minnows like me everything affects us, if the budgie farts we tilt. Actually, if my dog fa...never mind...

Had a nasty day at nl10 yesterday and that about kills me shot at it for a couple of days I think. I'll sit at nl4 for a day or two to re-establish myself, I don't want to be spewing off a stoplosses day after day like I did before.

It took while to find some good games then when I did I was like a bug hitting a windscreen. It wasn't all 'Ooooo I ran like...' or 'Bloody fish suckout all fkn night again, they just kept hit...', no, I played one disaster versus a maniac that was so bad I'm posting it as penance:

So this guy has a Jx (remember this children, it's important), maybe KJ something like that, he hasn't got JQ or he'd be going for gold after my raise, he's a nutter.
So when he calls my raise he has to be on a draw and no draws hit because...so, didn't see the straight then Mal? Erm...wot straight, I took JQ out and there's only 89T and a blank 4 river out there apart from my set of 7s...

See how I tricked myself there? Wtf is THAT all about!? I can't remember doing that before! Anybody else? Please say yes, pretty please?

Not long after I hit stoploss when yet another 75/2 called me down with gutshot. And so there I was, gone.

Having trouble with PT4 to, that's twice I've hit stoploss and wouldn't have known if I hadn't been having such a bad session I took a look at the BR. PT4 seems to be stalling and not registering the hands for whatever reason and it's a bit annoying. Instead of being down say 2.5-3BI I'm down 4BI by the time the BR tidies itself up in the lobby and that's not good.

I'll have to look into that one asap.

In better news, my emotional control was at 99% and I didn't flinch at any time during or after any hand - and believe me there were a few beauts - I didn't shout/curse/jump about/type shit in the chat/ or any other bullshit stuff that's a waste of space, I just blanked all the results (yes, even THAT one) and moved on.
Now, just rinse and repeat to be a crusher; easy game init. Emo

So, dropping to nl4 for a short stint I think is best.

Happy with the way the strategy is working, most times I don't need combos of this and that and villain could be bluffing with this or the other, I have a way of playing and it works for me if I execute it properly and with a professionally calculated attitude.

So this week's lesson will be how to repeat the attitude without reading books on it, they don't work for me.

Nl4, this week, som'b'dy gonna get it!

Play your best game always, have fun - and avoid dog farts. Giggle
