Blahh, shitty volume, shitty focus so far this week. I wonder if that correlates with this crazy hot chick sending videos of her squirting etc while I work. Probably not, but who knows.

Weekend was nice, participated in training for national guard and shot combat rounds with AK-4. Yes, airsoft is for sissies. Some rough uphill training session as well. Got to do 5km xc race on Thursday, so I assume volume will remain shit this week. Worth it.

Month half way. Around 25k hands in, but can't know for sure. 888 fucks me in the ass as usual with 500 below ev, up 500 at n8, so nothing extreme. But NL100 dreams on hooooooold.

Tilt is finally getting to me. Lost 80/20 HU vs fish when I called his flop overbet jam, and it got me pissed. Shortly after played this hand vs whale who's ben pot-bluffing (he pots river). Not sure if my call down is right, tank called river as 4 shouldn't improve his hand often except Ah3, random 42 idk. Snap sat out next bb.

As run bad goes on, started to mess with 3x PLO2 and 1x PLO5. Biggest pot so far. AI on turn and lost to 2 outer mmmmm. A sign? Laugh Also, the PLO5 table was filled just with East Block after a while.. I'm not really folding pre, plugging equities and I'm amazed how close they come in many spots! Fun game.

mattusko: AJ55 rainbow. the easiest fold pre ;)

I don't remember pre flop action (and I don't have PLO manager), but I played like 40/25 overall. I want to get in as many spots as possible just to experience them, so I don't fold much. I don't have pre flop ranges. I don't have post flop ranges. But it will change Cheeky

After a long while grew 500bb stack!! Smile ...in PLO2.

Bleh, feeling depressed, playing with no joy. Gonna drop the stakes till Saturday to find a sparkle again, then gonna have weekend off and come back fresh on Monday! Fuck, poker can bring you so down. I'm having an itch to just gg poker and fuck off to New Zealand to live.

Posted 7 years ago
The sad truth of the matter is that everything can bring you down and make you want to escape to New Zealand, be it poker, 9 to 5 desk job or owning a successful company. What makes poker different is that you can just take a day off or splash around at PLO tables. Speaking of PLO, maybe shifting focus towards that game would be beneficial? The variance is insane (but not as insane as in MTT's and everyone and their mothers seem to be playing those), but getting to mid stakes (and staying there) should be easier (though somewhat more time consuming given bankroll requirements).

Hang in there sir! You're a smart guy and I know you have enough experience to know this, but "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence". Quitting poker might be a good decision and the game certainly isn't for everyone, but in the end, it's just trading one set of complications for a different one.

I quit playing poker full time 2 years ago and it was one of the smartest decision I have ever made. Now I have an awesome "9-5" job, where I love to go and playing poker online from time to time...

And the reason was super simple: I wasn't enjoying it as much as before.

It doesn't matter what you do. Do whatever makes you happy. If it is poker, play poker, but don't play it just bcs you can earn couple of hundreds more than in avg job in your country.

New Zealand sounds AWESOME. Good Luck.

@MattVIP Simple life is happy life Smile But I think after couple of months of stress free labor I'd get sick of it as well. This is not the first time I'm in this spot, it happens like every 6 months or so.

@mattusko I'd snap quit long time ago if the difference was just couple of hundreds. But New Zealand sounds awesome, I agree!

Anyway, today was a good day. Played 0 poker hands. Watched (with full focus) most of Ville Montonen (@Kyyberi ) videos here on pokervip and took some 12 pages of notes. There's a lot I can bring from Holdem to PLO. I'm pretty sure I understood all of the concepts Ville was talking about. To be fair - at the moment PLO actually looks simpler than Holdem. You don't have to count combos or face overbets etc. And the money goes in. Also, poker juice gives a lot of room to study everything you need with a single software (correct me if I'm wrong). I have to buy Omaha manager pro + 30e/month poker juice. Tomorrow gonna continue with videos here, and hopefully I get to take a first look at pre flop ranges. Maybe I'll throw in a session of NL20-30 holdem as I need money as well.

So yeah, I've decided to finally make the transition to PLO and possible to mixed games in even further future! Maybe I'll go for OPL season 3 depending on rooms.

Also, I'm considering stake + coach PLO to fast track, but most likely no.

Changes ahead!

If you are looking for something cheaper i would suggest Propokertools. Really good software and I think you can buy it for like 89$ for a lifetime. It's not as nice looking as pokerjuice but its still good when you learn all the features. Super excited to follow your journy here when you transition to PLO!

If you are serious with your last claim in the post we would be very happy to help you! Best of luck!

@Prostaker I surely will consider joining! PokerJuice looks soo much superior than Propokertools though, I'm fine with paying extra when EV of PokerJuice seems very high.

Question about BRM - I know swings can be huge, how many BI's should I have for the limit? I'd start off with just 3-4 tables at start, possible try out 2 tabling zoom format maybe as I'm getting irritated from table hunting environment lately.

Today was a good day again. Watched rest of @Kyyberi videos, and also all 3 of @redrooski24 videos (full focus ofc). That's pretty all there is at pokervip as other videos are 3+ years old and most likely outdated. Now I've got like 20 pages of notes in 2 days, which is more than I have made in my whole NLHE career (reason why I got stuck in NL50...). Fun thing, ran through 5 biggest PLO pots from last 24h on HSDB, and I successfully put everyone on correct ranges. Can't do that in HS holdem when OTB shows up with 74s etc.. Also played a session of NL20-30 and finally have a winning day! Gonna continue to throw in those stress free sessions at stakes where I do pure printing in addition to intensive PLO study. I can live of 300e/month, which is easy doable this way till I start crushing PLO (and I will crush).

I'm doing a 1.9km race tomorrow, interval start, and it's pure push from one end of river dam to another. Flat, asphalt. Low lever race, so I aim to take it down with all the glory with it! Laugh

Back to office on Monday, gonna dedicate it to PLO pre flop ranges + 2h holdem session.

one thing is to look videos and understand theory, other is having -10 BI sessions constantly.
anyway omaha is fun and good luck with it.
except rake Sad

I`ve experienced 40BI swong in 3 sessions, and the thing is you cant quit vs 75vpip villains Laugh
I`ve also played 1500bb pot in omaha so be prepared.

Yep, I don't expect it to be a walk in the park. I suppose 100 BI's should be minimum for a work limit?

No less than 50 I would say and to be really comfortable at least 100. The swings in short periods of time is big. One of our players ran 24 BI under EV in one day this week. But dont be to scared of that short term variance. Its so much easier to have a high bb/100 that it more than evens out so that your monthly swings will most likely be smaller then in texas. You can check out this http://pokerdope.com/poker-variance-calculator/ and run some simulations.
Run some simulations with different bb/100 and the different standard deviation from texas and plo. I would say its easier to have 5bb/100 on PLO100 today than 3bb/100 NL100. You also see what your minimum BR should be for less than 5% risk of going busto.

PS. The player that ran 24BI under EV hasnt had a loosing month in the past year, something that none of our NL players come even close to.

The most aggressive bankroll management for PLO that made sense to me was 50BI + as soon as you grind additional 10BI for the next limit you take a shot using those 10BI. So for example:

700$ -> You can start playing PLO20 and once you drop down to 500$ go back to PLO10 and try to grind back to 700$. If your PLO20 shoot end's up being successful you need 1500$ to make a shoot at PLO50 and once you get down to 1000$ you go back to playing PLO20 etc. etc.

Again this is as aggressive as I'd go in PLO with 100BI per limit being a much better option. Also, you should be learning on the cheap since you can't really expect to be a winning player right on the bat I'd spend a good 20-30k hands on micro stakes no matter your bankroll.

Ok, so first off, I won the 1.9km race on Saturday with time of 6:14! Nothing amazing, but all right for a hobby runner. Pretty happy how my shape is going up again, fairly confident I won't embarrass myself next week when I fly to race in Sweden. I really enjoy running in Autumn, actually having a bit of an itch to get back to high level competing, but it'd take alllloooooot of time.

I was very naive about PLO opening ranges, I thought it would be more like in Holdem, but it doesn't work that way in PLO. I found these ranges in PokerJuice forum. It will take a while to understand them, but then I'll use them as my basis and go from there.

Messed around at PLO2-5 again for an hour or two. Got in two spots I understood I'm no good but got in anyway. 1) limped pot, K102r flop, I have 22Qx with Q high flush backdoor. Player bets, I raise, he 3bets small flop. I'm like, ok, this is 1010/KK always. Yet I called, turned backdoor and jammed all in. 2)Called 3bet with double suited rundown, flopped pair + FD + BDSD and got in on flop. All good, except it was A high flop and AAxx will be majority of villains 3bet range, therefore should just muck on A high boards.
Lesson learnt!

Also, gonna take part in OPL season 3. I got in 7/10 rooms, unfortunately 2/10 don't want me and I don't want to mess possible BV account. So due to that, I'll need some reel rungood to bink leader board. Thanks to the hottest asset of pokerVIP aka @CrazyKeri for setting it up for me! Downside of it - my sleeping schedule will get fucked as BetOnBet starts 1am for example. I'll look into dividing my sleeping into some alternative cycles I don't want to grind till 4am, sleep till 1pm anymore.

If anyone (preferably from UK) has NetBet / Coral / BV account made via pokerVIP that they don't use and want to freeroll for profit split, PM me for some shenanigans!

Congrats on the win! The time looks pretty damn impressive if you ask me. Can't really help with the poker room issue, but I can wish you good luck in the OPL Smile

Thanks! Yeah, time is all right for regional level, but wouldn't stand a chance at national level. This is the beauty of competing in running - you know your finish position right on the starting line or just few hundred of meters in, there is no luck involved (apart injuries or health issues that nobody wish for). Strongest wins. I just got lucky competition was soft enough Laugh I'm aiming for this regional 3.5km xc mass start at 18th of November, my PB is 10:59 and it is from 2013 when I really trained hard. If I can beat it this year, it would be a great personal triumph! And yeah, luck will be crucial in OPL Smile

Lazy day at office, did not study PLO but grinded NL instead. What I should do is 2h grind, 1-2h study, lunch, 1h study, 1h PLO, 2h grind (or other order), and additional study time post office hours when no other plans. Again, schedule will change drastically when I have OPL events 5/7 nights a week. Probably I'll just load up 3-4 NL tables aside, but I seek a sustainable and balanced routine.
