MattVIP: Very interesting thread especially when you consider all those poker doomsayers. Turn's out you can still run it up playing micros and I'm happy you're doing well sir!

Cheers Matt... yeh theres still pennies to be made down in the Micros, for sure you can run it up... still a while to go yet to confirm I'm not just on an elongated heater but I'm pretty confident I'm gonna run it up to 25nl by the end of the year....

What's up guys!

Been a while since I updated this thread, as usual been super busy, I've still been knocking away at this challenge though Smile . Not really sure why I've called it a challenge as it doesn't really have an end point! Zero to hero... when is hero exactly though?

So I've decided to give myself an end goal for this year at least:

750 euro and sitting pretty at 25nl by the end of 2016

My current BR is at 220 euro and I still haven't taken a shot at 10nl yet. I haven't taken a shot yet because I've been playing pretty sporadically and when I take that shot I want to be as focused as I was when I started this challenge. One day soon I'll sit down ad take that stab so wish me luck!

I did a bit of research and dug out how many hands I've played in this challenge. Currently 43,000. So my win rate (including any rake back, which at unibet is kinda random!) is around 12bb/100... short sample I know but its interesting to look at on a site with no way of getting this kinda data.

Right on

Good luck and see ya on the felt!

Oh yeh played the local weekly tournament a week ago, first time playing live in over 2 months. 40 Runners, £700 up top and I took it down! Nothing like a little break to get you back on form... either that or a little run good Cool

So I finally took at shot at 10NL and glad not to hit a downswing right away... in fact I'm 5 buy ins up! I'm still not totally out of the gate as I feel I'd need 300 euros to be comfortable...

Two notes i took are that there are still plenty of fish and a little more three betting. For example one guy called my 3/4 pot sized shove on the turn with a gutshot and two overs on a 2 3 9 10 ss board in a three bet pot! He was holding J K with no flush possibility and I was holding a set. Needless to say he hit his gutshot, but wow, yeh, more three betting fish please!

So all good here, just playing when I can which will definitely slow down very soon with the arrival of my first offspring! Due date is Sunday so we are on the edge of our seat just waiting for something to start moving!

I have managed to get myself off the floor at work for the entire month of August which is awesome, to be able to spend lots of time this summer as a new family is such a great feeling. So having said that I may or may not be playing quite a bit of poker, I'm sure for the first week or two I won't be playing but as we settle in to parenthood and with all this time off work I'm sure I'll find some time at the felt and on this challenge...

If I'm not updating this for a while you know where I'll be... knee deep in nappies!

Love the screen-name.

As for your NL10 experience - sure poker is getting tougher, but that's true for every other competitive endeavour (especially when money is involved) and micro stakes are still very much beatable. Hope you're gonna crush it sir!

Dude where's my graph!?

Inspired by @jongordon84 I went and created a plotting graph in Numbers so now all i have to do as add the simple data of hands played and total Euro into my table and voila! I'm guesstimating my hands and then just asking unibet for a total number of hands played every now and then and adjusting accordingly...

So things are going well! I'm comfortable as 10NL now and looking forward to grinding it up over the next few months aiming for mr my goal of €750 and 25NL by the end of the year...

Hey, nah i don't have any BR on Stars at the moments... I'll check it out though! Just working on this Unibet Grind up atm, with a little tickle on Sky every now and then!

Ran my quads into a straight flush last night! Shame there int a bd beat jackpot on Unibet eh!

So down a little now after last nights sessions, I made a couple of other large mistakes yesterday so wasn't playing my A game... need to think about that!

Excellent start on 10nl dude!

I have moved away from Unibet now, currently playing on Party and mainly Stars. I have also been doing the jacks or better promo on Stars...but have only managed $2 freebies though so far...it is a bonus so I'm not gonna complain about it.

Yeh sorry I hadn't refreshed my screen so I hadn't seen the losing post when I wrote that. There is not a lot you can do about that quad hand but they don't come around very often so I'm sure you will be back in the green before long! Good luck dude! Smile

Hi Keith,

how come you moved away from Unibet? How are you finding the games?

Yeh all good here, jut has a great session which got me back over $300 ... loving Unibet right now!

Posted 7 years ago
I just got a bit bored with the games. I also wanted to use a HUD so I could go over hands and my stats in between sessions. I had a small session earlier on Unibet but only made about $1 in the hour I was playing.

I am really enjoying Stars right now. I had a session this afternoon and won a couple of buy ins.. I lost an all in pre flop with aces vs J9o...he hit a 9!

It's good to see that you are smashing it right now...keep it up! Smile

Hi mate. I had heard that Party is very soft but as I have been playing speed poker on Party with that summer promotion, it doesn't appear to be as soft as I was expecting. Maybe when the promo has finished then normal service will be resumed. The standard games will probably be softer but I just haven't played those yet. I don't have any experience with the full ring games, if I was you I'd give it a try...I'm sure it will be softer than the stars equivalent.

Good to hear you're enjoying the games... not much point playing down at the lower levels if you're not enjoying it eh... Always good to get a good amount of hands using a hud. I used to play solely at Sky with no hud but started realising there were some massive holes in my game so played at Stars for almost 100,000 hands and was able to work on my game so much because of it... shared my stats and got some great advice...

Good luck at the felt

Wow, Doom Switch!

I felt it coming as well... As i started playing last night I knew I didn't feel like it. Wasn't in the right mind frame at all. Then there was a bunch of what looked like maniacs at the tables that took a couple of stacks off me and it all went pair shaped from there! Actually was 7.5 buy ins down at one point! Managed to get a couple buy ins back before I decided to call it a night.

Its' funny how a few factors can just come together and make these bif loosing sessions happen.

I'm gonna make sure that I keep this in mind and even if there are some whales and maniacs about, if I don't feel like playing... I've gotta quietly walk away!

My game was not up to standard, I wasn't enjoying it, I knew it... and now i can keep that knowledge incase it happens again!

Oh well, onwards and upwards!

In other news my wife is now 4 days overdue with our first baby... it's a nice time of life, pottering around the house, a few lie ins... no real stress just waiting for things to start moving!

Exciting times!

Yeh you know it is one of those weird things with poker that when we know we are tired or not feeling it we still end up playing which is unlike anything else in life when you think about it.

Gotta just walk away from the computer and do something which will make you happy.

Enjoy those lie ins while they last Laugh congratulations!
