considered it myself, but decided to go with hourly coaching
given that the coaching is not face to face makes the quality worse, ive done some research on them and most of them are not positive, the big boys are still highlighted though
Posted 8 years ago
^^ it will come down to how much effort you put in. If you study the material they give you an hour a day and work hard on improving you'll get better pretty quick. If you just do the coaching and play you won't improve much or very quickly.

If you go into it with the attitude that you will let nothing stop you becoming the best player you can then you will probably become pretty good pretty quick.

But you can also do that on your own without the coaching, you may struggle with what to study without a coach ofc.

CrazyCookie: You sign a contract and I'd imagine they will have a pretty good legal team :')

Not saying don't join, I'm considering myself, but your paragraph about what is best for them is completely off! The best outcome for them is you make it to 10k asap. They get their 5k payment, a new posterboy and the potential for you to move onto the crusher programme.

Yeah sorry I phrased that wrong I mean the best for just them as opposed to win win. The £10k is best for both but having read their customers blogs it's very rare.

I think on balance I'm not interested. For it to work would need time I don't have, mental discipline I don't have and a belief I could be the best that I don't have. Then you need to be willing to table select religiously and follow standard lines and instruction to the letter. I mean to be honest if you show me a guy with all that I reckon I could teach him to beat NL10. You definitely could.

thetallpaul: Haha. I played like 5 hands then did this. Gigantic brain fade. I was eating Pistachios at the time so maybe distracted fiddling about with the shells and not back into game mode.

Dunno but time to quit for the night just in case it was accumulated tilt from the previous session. Just the clearest fold ever. His range here is 2 pair, sets, straights. Is he really jamming TT ever? Or Ad9d or anything at all? He probably should have some bluffs but I bet he literally doesn't have a one. You know the sort of one where you are open mouthed at yourself when you click call. Like I'm watching it from outside my body. I think (especially as I'm a nit) this is one of my worst ever calls. I overvalue TPGK sometimes on the river and thats bad but this is something else. Smack bang in the middle of a spell where I feel I'm playing well and mental game is good. Crazy. This is not why I'm break even (its the smaller pots really, overfolding vs flop raises, value betting too small, and missing clear bluff spots) as this doesn't happen that often but it certainly doesn't help.

Tilt never sleeps. Especially when otherwise normal looking players in the BTN's decide to start flatting 3bets with 44 and calling cbets with 4th pair in a 3bet pot. Thats not the point though really. 44 should never have been in his range on the turn and it was a 2 outer blah blah blah is just an excuse.

Hi thetallpaul!

Glanced through your blog and it was a good read. I replying because I could relate to you as a person and a poker player. I'm Pursuing a career outside poker, don't have kids yet though, but pretty similar setting. I've been struggling with mental game for years, but been improving quite significantly in the last ~year and a half. Also, I've studied the technical side of the game constantly and gone from breaking even nl20 grinder to one of the best regs at nl50.

If you want you can pm and me and maybe we could talk on skype on poker and the mental game?

Just my 2cents on this hand...

As played, turn is a fold, but you already said it yourself. Smile

I think I want to 3bet slightly bigger (1.1$-1.6$ depeding how callhappy he is) here since we are over 100bbs deep. Flop hits BTN's calling range really well; He has all the sets, whereas you probably have only 99 in your 3bet range. Also, blocking the KJddd KQdd KTdd is not ideal. If you cbet and he raises it's such an ugly spot to be in. And btw, what hand are you expecting to get 3 streets of value from? For the reasons mentioned above, I think flop is a check and probably start by checkcalling the flop. If he checks back you can bet twice for value. Checking also balances your checkfolds quite nicely.

Cheers & GL at the tables!

I played absolute c game today. Yesterday I had a really fun session. I ran like god for about an hour and was up 4BI EV (but down overall, so I guess not running that great post the AI button being clicked, but nothing I can do about that). Then I just got blinded and raised away for another 2 hours. I thought it hadn't really affected me but today I snapped straight back to that place. I didn't lose more than 40bb or so in any one hand but I was doing a lot of call flop fold, fold turn. Or folding to pot sized floats on blanks.

A bad one:

Why is the QQ bad? I did a similar thing last night, but my c game has got a lot closer to my a game and my focus was on getting back to the zone which meant I didn't play that bad at all. When playing I really recommend waiting down your energy levels and emotions to begin to find your a b and c game and what leaks are in each. When you know exactly what your a b and c game is like you notice quickly what game you are playing and resulting aliens in playing more often at your a game
Posted 8 years ago
Just calling turn when I was confident I was beat and would have folded to any river bet. Another one where in theory should be fine as can have enough lower PP or pair and turned draw or A high but not a bet that big multiway on Zoom.

Yeah I did recording mood and behaviour yesterday after reading your post on it the other day. That's how I could tell it was full C game. I didn't have it in me to get back to A game though so quit. Warm up today will have a different focus now I know I have accumulated tilt.

Oh I also miss read the board in one hand where I rivered the stone cold nuts and flat called their river bet thinking I had hit 2nd pair not my GS.
Posted 8 years ago
The QQ is played fine, he can be stabbing with air. Might be a problem if you see that as an error as it is probably based on results orientated thinking. Ie you make a call which is +EV but won't win ever time and when you lose you think you made a bad call.

I'd write out an A B and C game journal to see what the difference is between them and how they improve. Look at your mental game in each, what skills you have in each and your approach to the game in each.update it every other week and watch it improve with you natrually being aware of it Smile

Yeah, QQ is fine, you shouldn't worry about hands like these.

thetallpaul: Hi Sharky, Yeah BPC, that's the one.

A friend of mine is in that boat so I get you some info about it if you need.
About that transfer you can wait , couse they have a promosion of and you can pay like 50% of that first deposit instead of full amount ( thats how a he got in). They allow you to play on any site (even pokerstars) , and there is no volume .You play as much as you want.
However he said its kinda timewaister to ign up to Micro program as he did.Claims stuff is too fundamental and you dont get much instead of hand history review. So I guess Crusher is way to go , but you need to show over long run that you beat nl10. I am thinking to join as well once I establish proper grinding routine and hopefully hit that discount (which they claim to pay you back in the end - cant say couse I really dont know anyone who completed it ).
The other obligations are that if you want to end program beforehand you need to pay like 400E for every coaching hour .
And profit splits are not equal. In the begining they take more money, and the closer to the end goal you get, the more its in your favour.
For example for first split is 80/20 in their favour ,but last one is in yours. so in the end its 50:50, but they take more in the early stages of it , which kinda reppels me off .
THats what I know from head about the program, couse I was asking about it .
IF you need to know anything else just say and I will ask a friend.
Posted 8 years ago
Thanks @Sharky really good of you to put the time into giving us that. I think on balance its not for me.

I can see for some guys it might work and for the Crusher program I can see a different perspective but for the one I can access I think I'm out.

Hands from last night that I played a bit odd.

Pre standard. Should check flop here but its not a massive error I don't think. Turn an OESD and bet small again. Probably another error and getting larger now. Get raised and call in front of me so felt I could call, blocking a lot of straights, hoping to hit and get paid by set or 2 pair. If river J would be looking to show it down not get frisky. The BTN was already committed and I didn't think I could do much jamming to try and get the SB to fold. His flat call did not inspire confidence in my hand.

As played then easy chuck on the river. One of them had the super nuts, the other had absolute air. I'm sure you can guess which.

Other one.

KQo I think is OK to squeeze here as don't want to flat vs reggish UTG player. He folds a lot to 3bets so felt happy with +ev spot. UTG folds as planned and MP calls. When people do that I tend to put them on PP's 77-JJ and maybe some AK/AQs. Small PP's and SC's will fold. Flop then crushes his range and I'm not super scared of diamonds so check back to induce action on the turn. Turn is sweet and get the bet I want. Call IP as raising I think gets me in vs 99, AQ. River is not ideal but have to call again?
