Hi Paul, how did you find the review Jon did, any eye openers?

cheers
Posted 9 years ago
I found it really tough. I've watched it back again and I don't think its a bad as I thought though. I'm very passive postflop but I'm not sure its much of a leak on Zoom actually as no-one folds or bluffs so I just play pure value. Over this year so far my cbet success is less than 35% on all streets for example. Barrelling is suicide it seems.

What you think? Call river?

Seriously though. Never bluff or call light at NL10 Zoom. What am I doing? Just nut peddle and save the 'moves' for later in life. Top pair top kicker in 3bet pot and get raised? Fold.
Posted 9 years ago
Had a funny experience the other day on Zoom as well. I had flopped nuts on a good board and was calling away. Villains range was strong and beaten on the river so I raise for value. Other guy pauses for ages then types in chat: I've seen your video. LOL. Then he folds what I can only presume was a very strong hand given his triple on that board. I need to be careful what I say in here as I might be getting bluffed even more because of the videos and losing the value I need for my nitty play to ever pay me off as people know if I bet I've got it even more than my stats might indicate.

What do we think. Pre I think I have to call. No value in 4bet and not folding. On the flop I have we have overpair and BD straight draw but didn't hit the set and now every pair in his 3bet vs UTG range has me crushed. Call hoping this is a big barrel from AK or a bluff trying to end the pot now? If I make his range:
TT+,AQs+,A3s,65s,AKo for example then I have 47% and have to call but I'm just not liking my chances of getting to showdown well so I edge towards folding. I can't see a range I smash and I'm dead if he is doing this with TT+ and only some AK combos. How crushed depends on how many AK. Seems mental to fold an overpair to one cbet in 3bet pot and in almost any other positions or any reads I'm not but this feels nutted.

I think you have to call one street.
Any stats on villain? 3bet vs UTG open always makes me dizzy, usually means super strength but depends on villain.
Posted 9 years ago
I would 4bet preflop and call AI.
As played preflop, i would raise flop or at least call and reevaluate turn (depends how big is villain Cbet flop and turn)
Posted 9 years ago
@rakha. Yeah I thought that but just can't see how it will make me money unless he a fair few bluffs. His value range has me so crushed I need quite a lot of bluffs and all of those will have outs probably (Ax or Kx). What do you do if K or A falls. What if blank and he fires again.

@mattusko I may be too nitty. I was looking at my database as I was going to say thats overplaying QQ as he only 3bets tight but I've been 3bet some crap actually so a bit of confirmation bias at play. That said only KK+ have GII preflop so if 4betting it would be folding out a lot of crap wouldn't it. Same on the flop really. I would love to have your style though. I'm always MUBSing myself into a fold.
Posted 9 years ago
The problem with a 4bet is that we don't dominate a lot of his calling range.
Again, we need stats/reads on villain.
But then again, if you only call to keep his range wide-ish, then you have to call at least one street.

What we think to this one?

Pre is fine. Flop I bet smallish on such a dry board. Turn check to induce from Ax and air, maybe some small PP's looking for me to call Ax.

River check call? Or give him credit?

I'm currently on an incredible heater for the month. I'm playing better as well but it easy to do that when you have no tilt from getting crushed to cloud your judgement.

Its always fun that when I lose its because I suck and when I win its because I'm lucky. Mindset challenges I suppose.

I am however 6 BI above EV which has never happened to me I don't think. I've been above but never this much and so fast. My bell curve in PT4 2 of the 3 are above average. Not by much but again its a first. Killer stat is WTSD 28% W$SD 61%! Mental!

Still can't complain too much I'm 15BI up for the month, plus 6BI on bonuses. I think I am close to another couple as well. BR is well over $600 from $400ish after I came back from my break.

Hey Paul

hand 1 ) I would call the river. They either have a J or they don't. The odds seem tasty enough to call and take a note

hand 2 ) It sucks but I think we have to fold. They have so many sets/2pair and flopped straights in their range. What do we hope to get it in against and win?

Also remember that we are running comps each month on hand of the week in the Poker Strategy section. You hands will see my comments there I think.

Good to see February has brought you sucess, this thread needed a jolt of motivation and run good, glad you finally got it.

In other news my BR just hit new peak of $690. Still above EV. Only 5 BI now but still awesome.

With now $95 in RB and bonuses added to $190 month from the tables Stars I'm looking good. Going to shot NL25 if I manage to hit $750 I think. Dunno. I might not bother as I doubt I'd be able to cope with the aggression up there.I fold so much I'd be eaten alive.

Given that I withdrew my last net deposit money in my last downswing so am freerolling I guess I should give it a try at least but we'll see. Any advice on how to prepare for NL25 appreciated. Aside from playing NL16. I hate that shit for some reason.
Posted 9 years ago
Also just in terms of sample size variance, yesterday I played Zoom on 3 tables. After 110 hands across the 3 tables I was running 4/2 with 0%3bet and 100% fold to 3bet just playing my normal ranges. Crazy.

I normally run 21/18 8% 3bet and 63% fold to 3bet. Making assumptions on small samples is so dodgy.
Posted 9 years ago
100% give it a go buddy and just set a solid stop loss.

The aggression at least some of it will be in your mind, just sit back, relax and take your time. Don't sit down and think you instantly need to engage and battle back. Watch some hands, check out your opponents stats and just be very relaxed. I think this is the main thing - stay chilled and dont get anything bother you. Then just play your game, adjust where necessary and then crush.

Why not record your first 25nl session and send it to me?
Posted 9 years ago
Run good very much reversed and I have reverted to type. This is what comes of even thinking of NL25 when I can't actually beat NL10. I'm playing pretty well I think actually. I'm running nuts into nuts a lot so not getting value when I hit. Stuff like this where my flopped nuts vs pair and draw gets boned on the river.

Rest of it is just standard set ups and coolers. Its just they hurt more when all your good hands are not paying you off in return.
