100nl 88

Posted 7 years ago

Two questions:

1. Is the pre flop call against the button fine with 88? BTN is a solid-ish reg but BB is rather fishy. I think the call of the 3bet is fine

2. Do we just overshove the flop to look like a draw, or raise small to around 32bb.

I am holding 88 as Player4

A1: Yes

A2: No, just make it like $45 and ship turn. Shoving just gets hands to fol. If BB has JJ+ he will probably just gii and BTN will most likely fold, even if he has a fd then he has 16% to get there OTT.

I think here I like to think of it as (from a coach friend on here)... always make life a bit more difficult for our opponent. If we shove, then they just have to call or fold, but we can induce some by just raising. Even if rarely. We can get some draws to shove instead of just calling off.

Preflop I think is fine.

Raising it will look very strong, but the fish in the BB might call. The BU will fold TT, JJ and call as well only with draws.

If you shove it will look like you have flush draw, but you might get both players to fold anyway.

What about calling and check turn, let BB to bet again...

With the extra player already calling the reraise set mining should be standard.

I like Grocker's suggestion that making it a normal size gives villain an extra way to make a mistake. Shoving just gives him an easy ride with his marginal hands. I would reraise to $40 and obviously shove the turn.

1. I think it's a fairly standard call. You could theoretically make an argument for not having a calling range here, but I'd much rather play exploitatively with a recreational player behind me.

2. +1 for the idea of making it around 45$ though I assume that the expectation won't be that much higher than that of a shove.

Preflop looks fine since bb is fishy.

Flop I would go with a raise though I think shove seems excessive. I like the suggestion of going to ~45. I don't think it'll matter much against the reg since his continuing range vs a raise shouldn't change much other than with some weak draws. I think the smaller raise will make more money against bb though since it'll give him the opportunity to float lighter and rebluff you if he's aggro.
