10NL AQ

Posted 7 years ago

Villain is very aggressive! 11% 3bet range. Pretty strong move PF given he 3bet in MP vs. UTG but I thought AQ was a little too strong to fold against his range... Thoughts?

Flop pretty standard I think... Flush comes on the turn... We have the Qd so it blocks some of his broadway diamond draws, also we now have a draw of our own. With top pair and draw, correct turn call? Still behind to AA & KK of course... Which could definitely have a diamond =/

River... Interestingggg, we make a straight! KK / QQ (although we block) wouldn't bet due to 4 straight on board with A... So we're splitting vs. Ax & AA... Losing to flushes & 6x (which he rarely has)... So it's really just the flush we're scared of... The thing is, I'd imagine he would jam with a flush hoping some Ax will call. Instead, he bets 3/4 pot... Can we ever call this for a split or is it not worth it?

I'd be really cautious. I don't mind defending this that much vs. confirmed super aggro guy, but most light 3bettors won't 3bet many hands UTG vs. MP. Unless you have an air-tight read I'm folding this pre.

As for the post flop, it really depends on the quality of your preflop assumption. If you really think villain has a wide range then you kinda have to call this down given how close to the top of your range are you.

Been watching some of buluga whales stuff andbhe says that this response is the worst response to 3bs. We should be not calling much OOP according to him which I kinda prefer to what I'm doing now. I would therefore 4b or fold this pre and if he is super wide I would simply add ako and QQ to my stacking off range pre for utv v MP to make sure I am balanced.

Post: this is why calling OOP sucks, we have no control over the pot. I guess we have to call and hope he doesn't have a flush

Even this deep I'd be folding or 4betting AQ, it just does not play that well oop as we saw in this hand.

Flop and turn are fine, river is a little tricky as I don't think we win all that often. We'll tie with any ace and lose to flushes. Given their agro image they may turn up with bluffs some % of the time.

Think I'd call and take note here but not thrilled about it.

Standard fold to the 3-bet. It's barely profitable to flat with AQs in UTGvMP. You don't want 12 combos of offsuit trash going in your OOP flatting range.

@ArtyMcFly So we have no flatting range other than AK, QQ, JJ & TT vs. a 12% 3bet villain?

Thanks for responses!

Oh by the way, not to be results orientated, more for shits and giggles.... He showed up with A5d! Wheel straight flush to completely annihilate me! haha

Is this 11% overall or specifically vs UTG? Even the nutters tend to respect an EP open. If I want a 4 bet bluff range vs this guy then AQ would be one of those hands, but I wouldn't be calling given the positions.

As played I like calling flop and turn but would fold the river. Standard situation of villain unlikely to play KQ like this and micro players not barrel three streets as a bluff frequently enough.

@colly191091 I'd typically 4-bet QQ+/AK (and AKo is probably a 4-bet/fold), and flat with AQs/AJs, JJ-88, but it should be fine to fold the worst hands in that range.

At these limits it's probably not a great preflop call. Could 4bet, could fold. It's hard for the call to be super-bad given that we have AQ, but mistakes frequently happen postflop, especially the turn. To be fair your decisions won't usually be this hard, you got a brutal runout here. Could easily be a turn or river fold. I think definitely fold the river, but turn is a little closer when we pick up the draws. Probably still a fold however, and we'd certainly be folding if we didn't pick up the gutter and FD like we did.
