25nl 78o - attacking capped range

partypoker - $0.25 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BTN): 137.08 BB
BB: 118.16 BB (VPIP: 20.18, PFR: 15.13, 3Bet Preflop: 7.09, Hands: 346)

Pre Flop:(pot: 1.4 BB)Hero has 8:heart: 7:club:

fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 2 BB, fold, BB calls 1 BB

Flop:(4.4 BB, 2 players) 6:heart: T:heart: J:spade:
BB checks, Hero bets 2.8 BB, BB calls 2.8 BB

Turn:(10 BB, 2 players) Q:diamond:
BB checks, Hero bets 12 BB, BB calls 12 BB

River:(34 BB, 2 players) 4:heart:
BB checks, Hero bets 28 BB.......
villian calls QJ

Villian is a reg who is 3betting reasonable ammount from the blinds vs button, 78o is bottom of my offsuit opening range vs this guy

Flop - cbet with the gutshot, could go for a delayed cbet as my gutshot isn't to the nuts but i think ranges are wide enough for me to bet it

Turn - villian seems decent TAGish and I expect him to check raise any strong hands two pair + on the flop. Also the turn card he can never have the nuts (AK) because he will 3bet it pre given stats and I also block 89 so given his capped range i decide to overbet - sizing??

River - my initial plan was to give up unimproved but i guess this will be one of the worst hands I can have in that spot, i block the low straight & villian doesn't have the high straight.... so probably betting river is a better plan? then the heart came so I think i can bluff this card it as i assume given action he doesn't have many flush combos, maybe some monster draws and a few pair+fd but not many.

What do you think of line/logic? whats about the river plan? & what betsizing OTR?

Hi matty

I generally like the idea of 3 barrelling here, I like your thought process as well. I personally would bet 2/3 2/3 2/3 cuz I think it would make our story easier to believe for him but overbetting the turn is decent if sometimes we do it with AK, too. I guess it is a nice hand and your reasoning is fine.

I think flop plan is fine, but i'm check/folding turn here. Q is a really bad card for our equity and I think I'd rather be more straightforward Smile

I like your line actually as we have AK and sets way more often than villain does. Just ran into a hand which he could not fold this time. WP

I think your though process is good throughout this hand. The only thing I don't like is that he does have a decent amount of 2 pair on this board in his flatting range I would assume, also the flush gets there on the river but he shouldm't have that many of those if he calls the overbet on turn. You ran into a hand that is able to call you down but overall I think it's a pretty good line to take NH.

thanks all, are we sure queen favours villian? i agree it gives him two pair combos but JT i think he raises the flop so..

queen gives him 18 combos of two pairs, 4 combos of low straight - potentially 16 combos if he's calling offsuit and 4-16 combos of k9 depending if calling offsuit

on the queen we can have 54 combos which are better than two pairs - 3 combos of TT, 3 combos JJ, 3 combos QQ, 3 combos 66, 16 combos AK, 16 combos of 98o, 16 combos of k9 - i think he's super capped here and our betting range is way stronger given he check raises a decent ammount OTF and also 3bets enough.

maybe I can even overbet turn larger & shove the river on a heart.... i mean he's got to feeling sick even with two pairs there and I really dont have that many bluffing hands or busted draws

Think the hand is played ok, I wouldn't expect most to fold the strong 2pairs+ on river tho mainly cus it's headsup and we all now it's pretty hard to make good hands HU as ranges are so wide.

If we decide to overbet turn should make it at least 15bb, I don't think 120% sizing accomplishes that much as an overbet, preferably somewhere around 150-200% is gonna be a lot better (I have two hotkeys for overbets, one with 154% and the other with 208% pot). As played I do like river sizing since board changes so it's a bit difficult for us to overbet again with a value hand that went for value on turn, so yeah what hands he is gonna fold after calling turn overbet kinda depends what level he is thinking on. Hope that makes sense, remember that we rep thinner for each street here.

Edit: also, don't write results in first post Smile

I like the line but I'd like it a lot more if the flush didn't come in. On a rainbow runout villain can't have the nuts but when the flush comes in there are several combos of the nuts he can have. You still have an advantage though so go ahead and bet big. Taking this line you can't expect folds 100% of the time and I think QJ is a pretty standard calldown by villain since it's near the top of his range.
