AK - 3bet POT - NL5

I have some doubt on the river play....

What is the best line? Check back or bet for value?

I can see his calling me with KQ and KJ that I can get value of.

Preflop: Standard.

Flop: I like betting here for sure, when it's multiway I would be making it larger here - around 70-75c.

Turn: Again I like betting here for sure, we have no reason to believe that we are beat here so we definitely want to be betting again for value. I like your sizing here as well, we are really looking to get max value from weaker Kx hands.

River: Unless villain has KT then we should be good here the majority of the time. Occasionally we can see some slowplayed sets here but a very large percentage of the time I would expect to be against KQ/KJ type hands here so again I am betting for value. It's a small thing but why did you not jam all in yourself? I just ship all the money in myself here, it's only a few BB's so it's not going to make much difference but it is never going to change villains calling range so when he is beat we want to get the absolute maximum out of the villain here.

Pretty gross that he turns up with the gut shot that got there since that is probably the only combo he can possibly have here since I would assume he is folding the turn without the flush draw to go with his gutshot.

The hand is totally standard until the river.

Whether or not you bet the river for value depends heavily on what you know about the villain.

Against a competent reg he should never have QJ but the board is safe enough for him to not raise sets at any point. Shoving feels a bit thin because I don't expect him to stack off KQ here and there's still better hands in his range too.

Against a fish if we bet smaller on the turn maybe we can bet small on the river and not expect to get bluff shoved on hardly ever, but if we do we can get away. There's not many combos of draws out there so he should have some showdown value which can call but doesn't need to bluff.

I was supposed to shove on the river....I think click on the bet slides and didn`t realize that was not all the chips..=)

If you think KJ and KQ are well within their range and are calling then the river is a no brainier. I'd have made the turn bet a little larger myself to make it an easy less than PSB shove on the river myself.

Turlock always provides good food for thought.

@Harvie A dose of healthy sarcasm?

@Turlock hehe no. I meant that if you were to disguised my advice I would follow the line you suggested. The only reason I differ is because if OP thinks they are going to call with worse hands, then we should always bet on the river.

Pre and flop are great. I might go a bit smaller on the turn but I don't that's a big deal.

River is interesting since he hasn't raised yet I expect AK to be good here before the river. I would expect several sets to x/jam turn on you rather than call and hope you bet river so I expect villain to be fairly capped. I don't see players folding KQ KJ here so I think it's a decent assumption that you're getting called by those. Hopefully villain has offsuit combos of KQ in his range, otherwise betting against exactly KQs KJs is a really narrow range to target and the fact villain that villain can probably Wink have QcJc and TT makes river a bit of a wash against only the suited combos.

Many players will have KQo here though and sometimes call you down lighter with stuff like QQ, JJ or some sort of hero call so I like the shove.

I think we can shove on many cards, but not a T. It won't have a higher EV than checking in this case, although it does depend on how wide villain is capable of calling.

Best play is to underbet and fold to a shove, or simply check back.

I doubt shoving is horrible, and it will obviously be +EV for the entire hand, but imo it's debatable whether shoving actually has a higher EV than checking.
