Party Poker Million GTD - Deep ITM shove or fold?

Posted 6 years ago

So this was the party million GTD last Sunday, think there was around 30 players remaining getting $2.4k. Next pay jump was at 28 player getting $2.8k, then I think it was 22 players getting $4k. These pay jumps were substantial for me at the time, I'd satellited into the event and it was the first time I'd been this deep in a major.

I'm short stack at the table and one of the short stacks in the tournament but theirs still some room to manoeuvre with 20bbs the structure was awesome, think we were on 20 min levels at this point.

UTG had raised 2/17 according to my stats but it may have been more than that at the time, maybe like 2/14 or 15.

Obviously him and numb is trump were opening most pots being big stacks, from what I remember all players acting after me were high stakes regs and have me covered. Numb is trump had opened 50% UTG compared to this villain though.

Do we take this spot to jam 8s with 20bbs?

It feels like its right on the borderline, I think 9s I'm jamming, 10s for sure is going in.

I think a 20bb stack in this structure (30 minute levels I think it was) gives us more than enough wiggle room to be able to fold 88 here. It would be different if we were the opening aggressor and faced a 3bet, but as above played out I would be folding here. Especially given the ladders, I think we can wait for a better spot to get our stack in then what is at best a coin-flip situation.

I'd fold it too. We can find better re-jam spots than this. And its okay to fold some orbits since you wont loose your re-jam stack in a while.
