PLO Check folding river

Posted 7 years ago

The river is bad. I am checking to throw up a little before calling and hoping he is spewing. The guy is bad, but I don't have reads on his tendencies yet. Got 25 hands on him 96 / 40 with 36% 3b, folds flop 0% over the few laps we have played. AF is 2.1 which to my mind is someone who plays made hands and strong draws reasonably aggressively but is not someone who is launching off using blockers etc. as people with an AF of 6+ seem much more prone to do.

Trying to range this guy is hard as I would assume JJxx / 88xx would be raising flop given how wet it is, likewise I think he would be raising combo draws like KQTXxssx KT9Xssxx ect. So he calls turn then I check and he tank tank tank ships river. I am fairly sure I am dead here a lot of the time, but I don't know if I am that dead that I should check fold needing to be good 12.41/39.89 = 31%. Does he show up here with QTxx 69%+ or does he have enough odd hands that I can check call river?

I think calling is ok but this is maybe a spot where, despite how loose villain is, I should be tightening the river call efficiency and folding.

Can we not bet fold this river? If we take this line and barrel three streets how wide would you expect villain to call? At these stakes there's smaller sets and maybe even aces up which can give you value.

What about the bet sizing on flop and turn? 75% on flop and almost full pot on the turn doesn't look consistant when a blank comes on the turn.

I can see him potentially having some combinations of 88xx JJxx though I think most of the time if he is not raising the flop he is getting it in on the turn. I think mostly undersets would be raise getting it in on the flop given how wet these types of boards are in PLO.

I go big on the flop and pot turn to get SPR 1 on the river and charge the many combo draws he can be calling down with. The river is terrible as wrap hands hit this card close to 100% of the time. The more thought I have put into this hand the more it looks to be a check fold on the river. He should just have so much QT9 / KQT type hands that I am dead over 70% of the time. I don't know though. Like half the deck are bad cards 9TKQ and any non-repeater spade. After potting turn I did not consider bet folding.

Well you have the nuts on the turn, so any thoughts of folding would indeed be a bad thing. Smile

After potting the turn I did not consider bet / folding on the river as an option.* Checking out the video. Yes

I don't think you should be folding here to almost any villain, and certainly not to a guy playing any 4 cards PF, never folding flops, and is psycho aggro (AF of 2 for 96 VPIP is insanely high). You are at the absolute top of your range here and if you are folding this hand you make it way too easy for players to bluff you. So many busted 9T and flush draws that should be bluffing here, and again this guy has almost any 4 cards.

You can't fold.
