Just heard some breaking mfkin news

Lewis Hamilton is going to take a 6 month break from formula 1 and cut his contract so he makes nothing apart from prize money and race go karts at the London Go Kart Arena. He decided he is making too much, wants to show people he is still relevant, wants to show anyone anything is possible even tho he is the best driver in the world and does not care about short term money even tho this will cost him £10m+

oh wait......no he is not a fucking idiot. He will continue to race Formula one but will continue to make appearances on the amateur circuits, get involved, chat with the up and comers and help them heaps on the side.some would say he is not giving back....some would say he is smart.

So what are your thoughts on why Doug is doing what he is doing?

You definitely have some ideas here as you are pretty passionate about the fact this ain't all what it seems....

He's doing it to earn money off the tables and build a following - that's obvious and to be commended.

However, @Jon-PokerVIP thinks he's going about it the wrong way and I've got to say I agree.

I guess frustration comes when you see someone who can do poker so much good and be great for the game (thinking of even GPL and the millions they wasted too) and they don't come through.

Doug is definitely >>>>> GPL though. I think that one will be impossible to top.

---

Think of it another way - you're a poker player, you love poker and Doug is a guy who has become self-made from the game.

Spending hundreds of hours playing 2NL cannot be the right option can it?

I can think of a million more entertaining things - why did he not VLOG more in Vegas, why does he not VLOG in Macau? What about dealing out some interesting scenarios on a poker table? Or how about even explaining to complete beginners who he is, what poker has done for him and the basic rules of the game?

What you reckon?

Jon-PokerVIP:
CrazyCookie: Probably 10nl back in the glory days, took a break and figured he will come back and crush... Pfft

Wouldn't surprise me if the 10knl games were play money or maybe playing against Fees just to look cool and lose a bit on the rake...

Now that's some conspiracy shit 😂😂😂

@Grocker6 yeh he is doing it to build a fan base, grow his channels and be the main man in poker which like @Jamie says there is nothing wrong with that it is just for me personally a massive WTF and a let down.

So the reason is this is not original, micro guys have had people to look upto for 10 years, loads of people have done these challenges, loads of people are doing these challenges and I find the content extremely boring. Not everything in life has to be original but when you are the "best heads up high stakes player in the world" why could he not think or come up with something new, exciting and demanding?

The poker world FINALLY gets a high stakes pro, who speaks his mind, who battles hard, lives the life etc etc andddddddddddd we now get to watch him grind $3 tournis. WHICH is also such a weird line by him as he slags tournis off something rotten and is a heads up player but chose the 'easy' road or perhaps he chose this road so if he bustos he can turn around and say there is a lot of variance in tournaments and he was playing with limited buy ins?!?! maybe, maybe not.

Ok so as for the content:

The argument can go either way if the content is good or not. It will come down to which channels of him you are watching and what you have seen/not seen.

So the Doug Polk channel is really rinsing the content but it is clips from twitch ffs which the majority of his audience has already seen. Let me say this again the DOUG POLK YouTube channel is clips of him playing live on twitch in micro stakes tournaments and cash games.

That's what truly hurts me, to go back to it again a high stakes pro finally stepped up and could have done so much more!!!

In Vegas all the cash, the big games, the stories, behind the scenes, living the life, parties etc etc was not seen. This is what people want to see IMO even the 2nl guys out there. Because its exclusive, never been done before and shows how DP lives his real life.

I dunno to me it's just a let down and I hope he changes this soon and I am looking forward to the WCOOP grind he will put in.

Would also say in b4 he starts to mention EV and how he might be running bad
Posted 7 years ago
500+ dollars down to 100+ = don't even mention ev.

He is down to $100?

It was around that last I saw but I don't bother with it now.
Think I'm with the big man on this to be truthful, if I want to see nl2/nl5 or micro buyin MTTs I just go play, there is content aplenty out there to learn from at that limit. Just so much more a guy like that could offer so WCOOP streaming please I ask.

Yawn

Yeh I also think it will really be starting to hit him now all the time he is wasting.

I would say although I am a hater of this I am interested to know his bankroll each day. Any easy way for me to find this out?

Serious Question..

So say Doug is currently 100% as a poker player or someone to look upto in poker...what % does he come if

1) he fails the challenge
2) He quits the challenge
3) He stops content creation altogether

?

The big man has an incredible knack for predicting what's going on in the poker world.

@Jamie He's good at predicting anything to do with poker which is why I'm bloody glad he isn't at my table!

@Jon-PokerVIP

1) I don't think failing would hurt too much, his reputation is too strong, so still 100% imo.
2) I think if he just ups and quits a long way off from the target without legit reasons his rep would drop, but I doubt that will happen given his stickability at it so far so again staying high at 95% at least if reasons are Kosher.
3) I'm not very conversant with this stuff but if he stops content creation altogether I think he'd fade away in popularity like a lot of others, kinda like my Poker Journey is slipping down the page numbers. He seems to relish the attention though so maybe that's not going to happen soon either. Maybe he'll 'Do a Fedor' and retire. There's always another hero so 20%

Just my fishy guesses, it would be interesting to hear some properly informed insights.

I don't think failing would necessarily hurt him, but it will for sure hurt poker as a whole. "If Doug can't do it then no way I can do it"

Quitting - Meh. I don't think anyone would really care if he just comes out and says "Look guys, I just don't want to do this anymore."

Quitting content creation - He will fade away a bit from the public eye but anyone with a decent bit of knowledge of the game will absolutely still look up to him. Reading some of his previous posts from 2+2 from a when he started out and was unable to beat the micros to turning into an end boss of the game is inspirational, no matter what way you look at it.

If Doug did go broke in this, it would be from being too aggressive with his BR management if things are going slower than he'd like. I think that's pretty much it tbh.

Solid excuse yeah

@fergrberger I agree, failing in the great scheme of things for his life is not significant at all, but maybe in terms of how to get viewership and gain traction he might have been better served by something other than the challenge. It's more a point for me of how unexciting it is to watch lowstakes and think the same goes for most people.

Actually, agree with all you say really.

Glad to see the WCOOP grind is on and I wonder how this effects the challenge going forwards...

If he wins a ton of money will he insta jump back in to 10nl games?

If he loses a ton will he jump straight back into it?

Now it's obvious that a good strategy for Doug would be to stay outside the US and switch to Natural8 Wink - he's not as known among that network's regs so he won't be suffering from the reg-infestation of the NL10 games where he sits down.

Both @MilfGrinder and PaURoger (the Spanish-speaking Twitch broadcaster) are doing better in their N8 challenges [I'm touching wood] than Doug in his.
