fawltyfelix: Interesting topic. Kind of surprised no one has responded. I honestly don't know. I mean I don't think it matters how good a player you are at the micros, when you have a downswing and a bad run, I think you are still going to lose, during that downswing. I just think that you will be better at minimizing how much you lose and probably better at maximizing how much you win, so overall, across the long term, your winrate will be much greater than a weaker player. I think they are probably better at hand reading and making adjustments based on villains, etc so they can navigate post flop a bit better; extract value where a weaker player might not or make folds that other players can't make
You can kind of see it in the vids here. Pretty sure that when the coaches here make vids, that they don't win every single session.
I can say this, as I have improved my game over the last 6-8 months I definitely don't see the really bad days, nearly as often as I did. Its been a while since I have had one of those 5-10 buy ins down in a single day, but I think they happen to everyone and from time to time they can happen a lot, when lady variances is really giving it to you.
Can't really speak to your game and whether or not someone else would have lost less than your 10 buy ins there, or even won, not without knowing how you played the session and reviewing it. It is entirely possible that beyond the coolers and bad beats, that you are making a lot of mistakes or making mistakes in big spots with big pots where it is costing you way more than it needs to.
That kind of stuff got better for me when I started looking at my post flop ranges street by street and trying to figure out what hands I have where and also how much of my range do I need to do X with and how much can I do Y with.
Safe to say that was sort of exactly what I was looking for; you're the man.
