Yeah i have seen some ridiculous things happen in there, like I said it was like bingo you get 2 cards and hope to hit no strat or skill used. What we used to do was buy 30 matches for £2 then play we would play. Normally 4-7 players. We did blind levels too after someone bust it would go from 1/2 2/4 3/6 etc.

We would then all have a 'debt' list and who ever owed who what would be sorted between them.

I really enjoy playing poker online it excites me (sad I know) never played casino or live tournaments.

I would just like to say thanks for the invite to the site, when I get my computer back I'm going to put a 4 table video up to see how I can improve my play and learn my mistakes

Again great site mobile friendly

Hi All, my name's Matt, 33 years old married with 2 kids age 2 and 4 months, live in North Wales.

Been playing poker as a rec player for a few years, first played at game when went on a night out with friends and ended up in the casino, managed to come third in a £20 sat night comp despite being too drunk to see the cards!

After that was hooked - read a few books (Harrington - old school!) played on 888 for a while and had a good ROI on microstakes tourneys on 888 in 2012, made about $1200 profit.
Also started playing live pub poker, and made a few quid each week from the 10nl cash games in the pub. Then tried transitioning from tourneys to cash, playing on PaddyPower, didnt go brilliantly, but did manage breakeven play at 10nl/25nl to clear a few bonuses for £1000 or so profit, plus a few more tourney wins.

In the last 12 months have played less online, but done OK in live casino games around Liverpool, managed to final table a couple of £100 buyin comps for a total of just under £6k, also played in the APAT World Champs of Amateur Poker and got a couple of final tables for a few hundred.

Still enjoy tourneys but family and work commitments mean its difficult to play for 4-5 hours at a stretch on a regular basis, so need to move to cash or sit n go's. Goal initially is to try and improve my game to make a decent go at becoming a profitable online cash player, as well as take an occasional shot at a live casino comp in the £100 buyin range.

Have deposited on Yachting and played a bit of 25nl - when I get time will start a poker journey thread to document progress and set some goals which hopefully should motivate me, will try and use the tools on the site and post some hands to improve

Hey welcome to the forum buddy. Love it how you came 3rd in a tournament when playing blind drunk. Seen alot of people playing these tournaments on saturday night absolutely wasted.

Do you often still play when having a few drinks? I found when i played a lot of poker i could never do this as i just generally didnt enjoy the game enough to do for fun outside of work. So when i drink i like to keep the 2 things completely separate. Plus i may have learnt a lesson the times i did play with a beer in my hand (easy way to lose a bankroll lol). I ask as you say about pub poker which is deffs a more social aspect of the game. Some of these leagues seem to have insane value and i keep hearing about someone winning a $15k Vegas package and so on....is this the case?

Sounds like tournaments are your main game....are you playing cash games for enjoyment as much as the tournaments or is it more of a case that they are great for learning the game quicker as you get into way more complicated spots more often? Such huge differences in strategies between the 2 i would personally find it super tough to transition.

Awesome story Matt and welcome. I used to also play MTTs but with two young children I have had to make the transition to cash too. Hard to find the time for a big MTT hey?

Looking forward to seeing your journey, best of luck to you! Smile

Cheers Jon - dont play drunk these days as not a big drinker any more - hangovers are too much to deal with when you get woken up by the kids at 6AM!

Play in Redtooth league - they have 100 vegas packages up for grabs each year - inc flights and hotel, and a freeroll with around 15k prize pool I think. Playing mainly as would be a good excuse to go back to Vegas!

Want to switch to cash for time reasons - need to be able to vary length of sessions with family and work commitments, also like you say playing deeper in a cash game is where the real skill edge comes in as get a lot tougher spots quite often - I hope by improving my cash game this should also help in the early stages of a tourney

Cheers Keri - yeah nothing worse than having a deep run and having to quit as kids have woken up etc! Still nothing beats final tabling a big MTT so try and fit in a few tourneys when time allows!

Too true! The amount of times I had to sit out for a period of time then come back with half of my chips missing!... I just gave up, totally tilting! And you are right, about final tabling. I have this debate with a friend often. He thinks there is nothing better than the thrill of winning a big cash pot, I disagree, final table all the wayyyy! I will definitely play the odd one here and there when the grandparents have the kids or something. Same to you! Smile

Hi guys. Thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Jon, from Leighton Buzzard, turning 30 in few weeks. Started playing poker regularly a few months ago and am hooked. With a full time job and family it's hard to find time but I'm starting to string together some 2 hour sessions several times a week. Currently a break even micro stakes player struggling to build a bankroll. Generally I seem to do well, playing mainly 1c/2c cash games, but I have a major leak in my game - showdown. I guess I play pretty aggressive, winning a good amount of pots without showdown. But I seem to find myself losing the majority of showdowns, chasing pots I should give up on. Strange because I'm well aware of the flaw but do it anyway! Anyone else have that problem? I've mainly played on Pokerstars but have joined Bet Victor and a few others so hoping the rakeback will help. Given I'm at such low stakes, what sort of percentage return/profit should a beginner be aiming for? As I said I'm breaking even so hopefully if I can sort out the major flaws I'll start profiting. I'm also going to invest in a hud soon. Poker Tracker or Holdem Manager?
Aside from poker I'm into reading, writing, tv, movies, comics, working out. Oh, and whiskey - love it! I work in IT but have a dream of playing poker professionally. In fact I do actually dream about poker! So anyways just wanted to say hi.

Hey Jon!
Flash Gordon fan ? Cheeky

You should download a HUD a try the free 30 day trial. It really helps your game by keeping track of your play! It's interesting seeing how aggressive you've been before showdown. You might spot a lot of leaks in the free trial.

I used to have the same problem with playing too aggressive at the micros and trying to outplay people. You have to stick t ABC poker!

Have you tied highland park whisky? I'd say it's my favourite.
