Spinning to Victory

Posted 7 years ago

So, I've been looking for a "new" challenge recently pokerwise. I haven't had the time to be able to fully concentrate on MTT's and the long sessions required.

Started playing Omaha cash for a bit, really enjoyed it and this is going to be my secondary game, probably on TonyBet or the GG network when they get the UK license.

But I've been speaking to a stable who back players in Spin & Go's, and on good terms for the players. They want me to play 500 spins at the $0.25 level when they will then assess the results and then maybe offer me a contract.

Started this challenge yesterday - play 500 spins, and hopefully show a profit at the end of it! Aim to complete this first challenge by this time next week.

I already had played 20x $0.25 spins, and I played 54 last night, and results for the first 74 spins are....

SESSION 1 - Friday 18th August 2017
Spins: 74 ($18.50)
Won: 25 (33%)
Winnings: $16.50
P/L: (-$2)

Lost with AA twice heads-up FTW (one in a 6x spin as well which is nice It wasn't me! )

Don't think it's too bad of a start

Small second session over the weekend due to being away.

SESSION 2 - Saturday 19th August 2017
Spins: 36 ($9)
Won: 12 (33%)
Winnings: $7.50
P/L: (-$1.50)

So another loss, and coming in steady on a 33% win rate!

TOTAL
Spins: 106 ($27.50)
Won: 37 (33%)
Winnings: $24
P/L: (-$3.50)

Running below EV which is to be expected from these spins.

Fairly decent session yesterday, played for a few hours and a total of 299 spins (pretty sure it should be 300, and I only spin even numbers at a time so HEM must have missed one!

Started of DISASTROUSLY and was nearly $10 down (overall) at one point! I then hit a 25x spin (The biggest I've ever had) which was $6.25 for the winner. I managed to take that down after being down to 200 chips early on and I seemed to kick on from there and started winning, especially in the 4x and a couple of 6x which are vital to win when you are lucky enough to hit them.

Ended up $6.50 in profit for the session and won 38% of spins so that's increasing and over a bigger sample so that's good I think, ran above EV towards the end of the session for once so that's nice!

SESSION 3 - Tuesday 22nd August 2017
Spins: 299 ($74.75)
Won: 114 (38%)
Winnings: $81.25
P/L: +$6.50

First profitable session, and a nice one over a large sample

TOTAL
Spins: 405 ($101.25)
Won: 149 (37%)
Winnings: $104.25
P/L: +$3.00

Graph is looking much prettier now! Smile

Running $1 above EV overall, not sure if that means that much or not?

So, I finished the 500 spins last Saturday, however I've been away (playing a tournament at Dusk Till Dawn - more on this in my Live poker journey Wink )

After playing the final 95 spins (ending 25c down for that session) to finish off this initial challenge, the results are in!

TOTAL
Spins: 500 ($125)
Won: 183 (37%)
Winnings: $127.75
P/L: +$2.75

Happy to be in profit ! First time grinding these properly, only the smallest stakes but good that my most "common" finishing position is 1st.

Ended up pretty much bang on $EV, which is good I guess, and the EV line was in profit so lots of good things with these results!

I had a Skype interview with the staking guys yesterday, that seemed positive and they like my application and also these results. They're going to get back to me within 48 hours with possibly an offer of staking so will be interested to see what that entails!

Either way I will probably continue playing Spins, these are definitely profitable. With a background in MTT's, I can handle short stack play and also downswings so I think they set me in good stead.

Now onto the $1 spins until I hear from the staking company!

I've been offered a contract with the staking company!

Think I'll be starting on $7 spins, which is higher than I've played them, so will be fun!

Will update with more info when I can

Nice one mate, GL, will be following your progress. I have found myself being drawn to the darkside, doubt I'd ever play mtt's for a living though, so tilting Laugh

Do not play Spins if you don't want tilting LaughLaugh

Got my first coaching session tonight, should be good!

AshVIP: Do not play Spins if you don't want tilting Laugh :D

GL mate hope you have a good session.

So I'm about 10 days into my staking, and it's going good! Have 3 coaching sessions a week (group coaching), only small groups and they seem a good bunch.

You start on $1 spins at the very beginning then onto $3 whilst learning their ways / charts etc

The $1s went well, although down $1 overall... (look at that swing already though... 25 buy-ins down before getting it back - welcome to spins!)

Attached Image

...the important thing we look at is the "chips won" info and the winnings/EV on that chart

Attached Image

Chips won is basically getting your chips in in good situations and that's the main thing they look for.

Got quickly moved up to the $3s where I'm going to play around 200 spins. After the first 100 I'm up 10 buy-ins cash wise but hovering around break-even in terms of chips won EV, so i'm "running good" so far. Hoping the EV will jump up by the time we get to 200 (still really small sample sizes) and then complete the training and move onto the $7s as a full member of the stable!

Will update with graphs once the 200 are complete Smile

Good to see your doing well mate. That chips won EV, think I encountered that the other day, think it was Doug Polk that was saying this is far more important info than somebodies ROI.
Posted 7 years ago
Thanks Smile

Yeah I don't know too much about it to be honest, but I think it portrays a more accurate hand-to-hand analysis EV wise.

I ended up playing just short of 300 games at the $3 buy-in, I broke even pretty much for the first 150 hands so they wanted some more volume, but as you can see from that point I've kicked on a bit and that EV line is just heading in one direction!

Attached Image

In profit money wise as well which is good, and I'm starting on the $7 and fully in the stable this week.

Good luck!

Clap Very Nice

So I've been playing $7 spins for around a month now, I'm slightly down actual $$ wise, but that's no issue. The main thing is that the gold line is strong, and it's going well!

Attached Image

After 1000 games the stats will be looked at, and if they are "good enough" I can be moved up to the $15 spins!

Walk in the park! Great stuff and let's hope for a graph like that at those 15s!

I've been dropping in at 0.25 on party and they have an ante but the players are erm...random, shall we say so it's rather swingy.

GL sir, you're a sharp one so lets see a vid or two at 100s by next year eh? In love
Posted 7 years ago
Thanks bro!

Talking about variance on your thread, you can see i'm running quite a bit below EV this month so far... 10,000 chips roughly which is like 20 buy-ins, but is still a small sample. I may not make it to the "threshold" which is a tourney ev of 71 or higher after 1k games (Currently on 59 - still pretty good and I have 300 games to get there and I'm going in the right direction) but tbh I probably wouldn't mind another 1k games at 7s, feel I would be more confident to then move up to $15s after 2k games at 7s

October Results

Down $$$ wise overall, but not by much and is easily getbackable

Attached Image

Played 700 games in a total of 88 hours.

Running $300 below EV is always nice Laugh but as always the important thing is the EV chips per tourney figure which looks like this:

Attached Image

The highlighted figure is what's important, that shows, on average, how many chips I "should" have won EV wise, so basically shows I'm a decent winning player. As above, that needs to be at 71 over 1k games to be moved up to the next stake, so I'm doing well!

Aim for November:

1000 games played
100 hours playing
ChipEV: 70+

Will start doing weekly updates every Friday. I'm also not going to open any of the bloody "chests" on Pokerstars until the end of the month and do it all in one go!

Posted 6 years ago
OK so first weekly review, will just do from the 1st Nov to keep it tidy.

1st - 5th Nov 2017

Time Played: 22.5hours
Spins Played: 146
Total Buy-ins: $1,022
Total Winnings: $1,190
Profit/Loss:+$168
ChipEV: 73

My ChipEV (gold line) could have been considerably higher but you can see the downswing / breakeven bit on that graph which lasted for around 60 games.

But playing well overall and 24 buy-ins in profit is decent, so a good start to the month!
Posted 6 years ago
That looks like a nice start Smile My 100 trial is over but is rather less fun unfortunately, but whatever. Have fun! Yes

Bit late but last weeks results...

Not a great week, seem to keep getting coolered and well as just generally playing bad. Lost some of the profit from last week and the Chip EV is pretty much break even, not a total disaster but should and could be much better. This week has been better already and think I've worked my way out of that breakeven stretch, which these things just happen

Time Played: 23hours
Spins Played: 181
Total Buy-ins: $1,267
Total Winnings: $1,177

Month -12th Nov 2017

Time Played: 45.75hours
Spins Played: 350
Total Buy-ins: $2,450
Total Winnings: $2,478

Can see the drop off at the end where it just went tits up last week Laugh

Oh well, onwards and upwards!
Posted 6 years ago*
So last was a BIT better, Chip EV was improved but still not as good as I would like it to be. Quite a few frustrating games where I just always had the 2nd best hand, for example TWICE in the same session I had 64 on a 642 board, and villain had 35... TWICE! Hands like that and getting pairs in against overpairs just wipes your EV out, but can't be helped either

Lots of the game seemed to last longer as well so played quite a lot less games than the week before but in the same amount of hours
