Hi,

hand i played yesterday that kind of got stuck in my brain, help me out here, should i always be folding here?
I called here since he checked to me twice, im blocking QJ and i felt like QJ or maybe 99 is what he is repping.
Still checking to me twice on a drawy board is what made me come to this desicion.

I did end up beating myself up for this call, give me your thoughts

From my experience, I think we go for a fold on the turn facing that raise. I just don't think we can continue on many rivers anyway.
Sometimes when we block stuff it can actually damage us because we make calls purely because of that, when we should look at how often this is ever a bluff and I don't think often at all.

I think a fold would be best on the turn. I can't see him even semi bluffing the turn here. I think he'd call and see river with club draw or pair and GS. He has stuff that beats you and occasional air. Its basically never air though I don't reckon.

I like his turn check raise, not getting excited and bombing in straight off the bat.

How competent is villain? Is he likely to put you on a capped range because you checked behind on the flop? If that's the case then his raise makes good sense to him as a bluff if he can get you off a decent amount of your range.

Maybe defending the turn is possible but I can't see how calling it off on the river is good unless there's a ton of history that you haven't told us.

Is there a reason you're going 4x pre here? Most players will stick with 2.5-3x.

Flop I like the check back. Turn I think betting is close. You're really only targeting Tx for value and you block JTs quite thoroughly. There are some combos of AT QTs though. You hand doesn't really need protection from anything other than Ax but that's 4 cards so it's nothing to worry about. If you do bet turn I think you have to call the raise with the pair+draw, otherwise you're probably overfolding by a lot. Your equity probably isn't spectacular either way though.

I'd probably fold the river. Your blockers are good vs QJ but he can also have 33, 99, TT, KTs, T9s and maybe some TP hands that assume you never check back better. If he had just taken a bet bet line on turn and river I think calling down is fine but in general his range should be stronger and include less random bluffs when he checkraises turn.
