NL25 A2s

Turn and river nothing I can do. Question really is pre. I like calling Axs IP BB vs SB but it flip back and forth over if its 3bet or call. When 3bet success BB vs SB is running at like 20% like it is on Stars NL25 then I should 3bet it I suppose.

PokerStars - $0.25 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4: http://www.pokertracker.com

Hero (BB): $25.00
UTG: $27.28 (VPIP: 48.00, PFR: 44.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 26)
CO: $25.00 (VPIP: 32.14, PFR: 28.57, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 57)
BTN: $30.48 (VPIP: 31.82, PFR: 27.27, 3Bet Preflop: 16.67, Hands: 45)
SB: $9.40 (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 6)

SB posts SB $0.10, Hero posts BB $0.25

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.35) Hero has Ad 2d
fold, fold, fold, SB raises to $0.75, Hero calls $0.50

Flop : ($1.50, 2 players) 3s Ah 8s
SB bets $0.71, Hero calls $0.71

Turn : ($2.92, 2 players) 8h
SB bets $0.25, Hero raises to $1.60, SB calls $1.35

River : ($6.12, 2 players) As
SB bets $5.84, Hero raises to $11.68, SB calls $0.50 and is all-in

Hero shows Ad 2d (Full House, Aces full of Eights)
(Pre 33%, Flop 3%, Turn 0%)

SB shows 8c 8d (Four of a Kind, Eights)
(Pre 67%, Flop 97%, Turn 100%)

SB wins $17.95

Why did you raise OTT???

Pre is fine to call or 3b

But the turn raise is awful! What are you trying to do by that?

Interesting you consider it a raise? I treat 1 bb as a check not a bet. If he had bet any real amount I'd not have raised.

As you know I'm a weak rec player but I see that bet as an attempt to get to a cheap river OOP. It tells me he is unlikely to have an Ace. He has 8x, 33, AA or worse than my TP. Some of those hands would call a small float (as thats what this is for me) i.e. PP's, heart draws. If he folds then he had air and I've lost nothing, if it was to induce and he jams its a fold.

If I call that minbet I'm left to decide on the river as he still has the initiative. If I bet there is a decent chance he checks his value hands on the river so I can see the showdown cheaper than if I called min bet and then had to face even a 1/2 pot on the river.

Thats what I was trying to do. Sounds pretty thin when I write it down but I don't think it is awful as it would be if he had bet an actual amount.

Ah sorry skim read and saw raise haha, even still I don't think there is any merit in betting if it was checked. You're not getting called by worse.

Yeah your reasoning is super backwards on this one Wink you're effectively saying I'm going to make him out more money in now with his strong range so that he doesn't put it in OTR... Ignore the whole "he has iniative" thing this is really just a bullshit phrase people use for some reason. If he min brts here he probably min bets river also.

You want to get SD cheaply when the 8 pairs OTT

Huge mental leak:

"As you know I'm a weak rec player"

You aren't but you are identifying yourself as one, I fully recognise that you have given up trying to improve from your journey and it is sad to see.

Calling preflop is fine here, notice SB is short also.

In practice we can mix in some 3bets with this combo in the majority of situations, but generally speaking call is good and we can bluff with more of the offsuit lower Ax combos.

I'm never 3 betting vs a shorty with this hand, calling does just fine.

I think your turn raise is fine as it's just like a check really and some of time we avoid getting bluffed by a third barrel which is obv good.

River is weird. Does anybody ever donk call a worse hand if we raise? Surely 33 and a bare 8 just check calls. It sounds ridiculous to advise not raising though but maybe that's right?
