NL10 Trips vs double barrel

Posted 9 years ago

Hey Guys,
I decided to checkback the flop, since with a cbet he would fold a lot of his range. Maybe I should cbet very small, but I dunno whats the best play OTF.
OTT he donked pot into me, which looks very strong. But I think i cant fold this. Riverbet is very gross and i was really tempting to fold. But with top of my range i wasnt able to fold here. Maybe he is capable doing this with AQ but most of the time he should have the nuts here.

What do you think?

I don't mind a bet on the flop here. It keeps up the aggression and builds a pot. A few flush draw combos that can call. Also weaker Ax and a few pairs (99-JJ)

After we check the flop, villain might interpret weakness and chooses to fire the scare card club. I don't think it looks too strong as a lot of people including myself would attack weakness shown on the flop with a probe bet. The A of clubs present on the flop reduces his flush draw combos in a 3bet pot so there's definitely bluffs in his range... And now the J of clubs arrives so that reduces his flush combos even more, he can have KQc or possibly QTc... That's about it! Although, there is value too... 88 (which would be an odd play, as he is not getting the right odds to setmine PF + he's OOP), JJ possibly, but only 6 combos of 88 & JJ... Would JJ always flat call an UTG raise in MP? Maybe some villain stats would be useful here. And of course AJ would be a worry.

When the river comes a blank, it leaves us in an awkward spot facing a shove... I would guess his bluffs would sometimes slow down on the river at 10NL. However, I would still call. Weaker Ax could be shoving here. AJ I'd be mostly worried about it. If he has it, I don't think there's much we can do! 88 & flush isn't too likely as I mentioned above....

I could be wrong about that river call but that's my thought process Smile

If we check flop we have to call down really. It depends what you do with your bluffs here as to what you do with AK. Likihood is that we don't have loads of bluffs v epopen + call and they may well be largely baby Axs. Given that we need to check back QQ/KK we could bet this and check our weaker Ax and then also bet any other bluffs we have here.

Alternative is to check our entire range otf to then bluff catch or get value from QQ. Not sure which will be higher EV, possible the first option so we can win the pot with our bluffs also Smile

As played I think you have to call it off. Villain can easily assume you have a pair that will call one but fold the river when he bluffs. He can also have worse Ax going for value.

I think checking the flop is ok. Balance isn't so important at these stakes but it's still good to protect your checking range with such a strong hand sometimes. You can also still get the money in over the two remaining streets of you so wish.
