A8s in 4NL

Posted 7 years ago

is this line one the long run profitable?

The hand played out exactly as I hoped it would. But is my process flawed here?

when he calls the c/r he might have AK especially after he raised to 3,5x preflop. My c/r makes my hand pretty obvious.
When barelling the turn he folds as i could not louder scream that i have the flush... checking gives him the opportunity to bluff and the feeling that I am afraid of the flush. When bombing the turn he will have konfidance in his AK as they always do in the Micros.

As played, if you wanna check turn, why dont you raise river?
Pretty weird line preflop to river if you ask me.

@PokerKim I potted the river... do you mean i should go even bigger to be more polarized?

I personally don't call anything in the SB but if I were I don't think I would be calling this vs an MP open. I don't think that it will be profitable in the long run to do so, but I don't really know, cuz I don't do it. I 3bet or fold in SB.

I think I would raise the flop much bigger than this. If you are going to raise TP+NFD then you are usually doing so with the intention of stacking off. He is probably only ever going to call TP or better, which could be an argument for just flatting, as you block Ax, which is what you want him to have. I would still raise and raise bigger. I would probably raise it to pot, which would be a little over $1.

I don't mind the check on the turn. From his persepective, you are raise 44, TT, ATs, A4s for value and will probably mix in FDs and occasionaly some SDs. So if he has something like he has then a check is probably better. However you are slightly deeper and with a hand this strong you do want to try and get stacks in by the river, so I think I would just keep betting tbh. If you raised flop bigger and bet turn you could definitely get stacks in by river. There are enough people at 4nl that wont be able to lay down AK+ here that I think it would be fine

@fawltyfelix always with the dopest posts.

You could bet small on the turn, but can't really add anything to what Felix has posted

I do flat in the sb in certain circumstances, e.g fish in the bb and that sort of thing but I would fold preflop here with this combo and move on.

As played, I raise more on flop, bet turn to leave enough to get the money in on the river. I think checking turn doesn't accomplish anything as villain is unlikely to bluff after the flop action anyway.

Agree with not flatting from SB. I'd do it sometimes vs BTN but UTG+1 has to strong a range for flatting this hand.

The flop will flat so that we have some FD's in our xc range. This hand has decent SD value and we dont get many better hands to fold. My c/r range is more polorized to Good draws w/o SD value and sets.

As played we need to try and get money in now when we have the best hand. The sets are much better imo to put in our xc range if we are trying to catch bluffs.
