Continuation bet

A bet that is wagered on the flop by the pre-flop aggressor. The player who made the final raise pre-flop generally continues the aggression on the flop with a continuation bet. It is the most common play as the pre-flop raiser and can be used as a bluff, semi-bluff, or value bet.

The continuation bet relies on the strength of raising ranges and the weakness of calling ranges in relation to the connecting with the flop. The continuation bet is generally meant to take the pot on the flop due to the infrequency of connected hands in the opponents range. Also, the continuation bet can be used to extract a value bet with a strong made hand. Many players generally make a continuation bet about 60% to 70% of time, although strong players are able to adjust this frequency in different situations.
