Hole cards

In games such as Texas Hold'em and Pot Limit Omaha, each player is dealt cards which only they are able to use. These are dealt face down, and are held by the player throughout their involvement in the hand.

It is with these cards that each player will try to create the best five-card hand, along with the community cards.

In Hold'em players are not obliged to use both or even either of their hole cards when making the best five-card hand possible. In Pot-Limit Omaha, players must use at least two out of their four hole-cards to make the best-five card hand possible.
