Overbet

This term refers to a wager that is more than the size of the pot. For example, a player making a bet of $40 into a $30 pot is considered an overbet.

The overbet can only be found in games with a no-limit structure. Other game structures such as fixed limit and pot limit only allow bets within the pot size.

The overbet is rarely used move, although it has become popularized by the famed Isildur and other high stakes professionals over the past few years. It generally signifies a strong made hand close to the nuts or a complete bluff. It is a difficult bet to face since it requires a person to be right a far higher percentage of the time.
